« on: January 05, 2009, 01:49:37 PM »
Well my front end finally fell apart last friday.  My front, lower, drivers side control arm bracket broke loose and now my control arm is hanging down.

Anybody know of a good place to get a new bracket.

 And Scott......Please help.....

Blue Torch Fab on 4wd.com.  3/16" steel.  As far as OEM, I'm not sure.  Probably Bumper to Bumper or an online parts store.  You probably won't be able to find a single piece.  Most likely they will come in pairs.

Sorry for the delayed response Rich, I'm on leave right now until Thursday and my welder is at work. It will have to wait until the weekend if you need me to do it. Are you replacing all the brackets at once?

Since you actually have something else to drive, why wouldn't you replace all of them at once? Remove the axle, grind it nice and smooth and then properly relocate the new heavy duty brackets? I'll be honest, I can't weld upside down very well at all...and I know it doesn't have to be beautiful but it DOES have to be strong since it's a major suspension link, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing a half ass weld on it just to save some time...... Just my .02

All right ordered all the parts yesterday so fix to happen soon.  I sat down the other day and wondered why the best vehicle in the snow in my driveway was sitting there collecting snow and ordered the parts.

So this weekend...

Did you end up buying a full set of replacement brackets? Are you completely removing the axle to put them on?

Rich, I have to say you may really want to listen to Scott on this one.  When I replaced the same brackets on my jeep, I left the axle in.  Even using Scott's welder, my welds were "amature" to say the least (because I did them  ::) ).  When I took the jeep up to Pete's for some work, he fixed them for me.  Doing it again, I would definitely remove the axle...  The welds will come out 10 fold better (and safer).  I will be happy to lend a hand.

Is your garage big enough to do the work in?

Still unsure about taking the axle out.  I will need help.  Ill make phone calls.  Shouldnt take to long though.  My garage is not big enough to put the jeep in but I cannot move the jeep very far without a control arm.  Like not even down the street.  So my garage is where it will be..  But Axle if your offering help and I got hotrod then Ill probably pull the axle weld both sides up, put the axle back under and call it a day.
