New Here
« on: March 07, 2014, 02:24:13 PM »
How's it going guys? I'm Sebastian, new here. I'm 23 married in the military. Any questions just ask.

The rig: 2006 Jeep Wrangler X 4 inch skyjacker lift on 33's. Intake and exhaust. Next mod is a rear end swap probably a Ford 8.8 or a D40. Open for opinions on which to throw in.

I look forward to getting involved with jt4x4 and I thank you for your time.

Yeah I like the 8.8 because it is beefier than the D40 and you can get them anywhere. No lockers on yours?

Welcom to the forum.

Both the D44 and 8.8 are plenty stout axels. If you find a D44 out of a TJ it will be a direct bolt in. The 8.8 will need a little TLC. The 8.8 might be easier to find tho.

Welcome to the board Sebastian. Like said above the D44 out of a TJ is a direct swap and you can probably find one with the correct gears in it to match the front. The 8.8 is usually easier to find and cheaper, but you'll be regearing it to match the front axle and it will take some work putting perches and everything on it or you'll have to find one that already has 4.10 gears and then try to find a TJ front D30 out of a 4cyl TJ with 4.10s to match them up.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you.

I was kind of looking at having an 8.8 built. There is a company in North Carolina that does them for jeeps and will weld the mounting kit on. I am not a huge fan of welding on cast takes a lot of patients and usually a good way to heat up what you are welding on. Still fairly inexpensive when you look at the cost of destroying the stock D35 which I've seen is pretty common. I appreciate the advice that is being given!

Yep, ECGS sells the 8.8s already set up for a TJ for a great price when you consider the perches, gears, lockers, etc.

I ran a LockRite "lunchbox" locker in the 8.8 for about four years before it gave up, I now run a Spartan for about a year now. I run my stuff pretty hard though, lol

Yeah I'd like to talk about lockers with someone that likes to run their stuff a little rough. Well talk about a number of options I guess. I look at my jeep as a toy (not really scared of breaking things to figure out what works) and am contemplating an XJ build this summer.

I'm Ryan and I'm new here as well. I'm 23 years old and I work in the Groton shipyard. I've got a 2 dr JK with a 2.5 lift, sway bar discos, and upgraded control arms. I'm looking forward to expanding my wheeling knowledge and meeting you all at the upcoming trail ride.
