brake job tomorrow or thurs night
« on: February 25, 2009, 02:05:27 AM »
So, while putting my way home tonight from work in the MPG-mobile, i hear a metalic rattle.  almost like loose change in vibrating in a cubby hole.  So when i get home and investgate (while airing up).  I find that one of the pins that holds my brake pads (passenger side) is haning part-way out (not enought to hit the rim, thank God!)!  It looks like the clip is broke.  I went ahead and ran my finger on the rotor.  It is nice and wavy.  The drivers isn't too bad, but I'm gonna go ahead and replace pads/rotors tomorrow (if i have time) or thurs.  Did not plan on this :(  Luckly, i can probably get my rotors cheaper than pads, so I'm looking at getting it all done for around $100 (thats w/ ceramic pads) !  Not bad comparred the the Passat I did (front pads were $90).

Anyway, if anyone is board tomorrow or thurs after 6pm, come on over!

I'll be doing ISR's all week (I'm sure you remeber how draining they are).  When I did brakes on my POS Jetta it set me back about $50 for new rotors and pads.  Hopefully your brake job will go better then mine,  the bolts on the passenger side caliper were stripped out by the previose owner.  Luckly they sell caliper bolts at autozone, so I replaced them.

I just did my brakes last sat.  I thought something was wrong with the fronts cause I had some grinding.  Took front tires off and found my front brakes in perfect shape.  Replaced the slightly worn rotors anyway.  Took the rears off and holy shit.  There was no brake pad left.  I mean no brake pad.  So replaced those and now everything is great.  Jeep stops on a dime.  Cost me about $90 for all.  Had a few parts still under warrenty though.
I do cheeks for free just ask...

Guess nobody really read my first post: MPG-mobile is NOT a tacoma, its the aspire.  I know how easy tacoma pads are; you can leave the calipers in (right justin and garry, remember that before breakneck?).  And pads themselfs were not cheap.  Anyway, its after 10:30 and I just got home (had late/unplanned meetings at work then Bible study).  Hopefuly I can get out of my meeting early enought to hit napa before they close tomorrow and get started!)

So, i went to napa and they don't have my rotors or caliper hardware instock.  I'll get it tomorrow and go from there.  "premium" rotors are only $18!!  my total w/ ceramic pads, 2 rotors, caliper hardware was about a hundred bucks!

LOL, probably!

Since it provides more value to me that what KBB say's it's worth, I wonder if it's possible to insure it for MPG value vice $$$ value.  Each time i drive it vice bambi (my tacoma for you new folk) it is like making me money.  it paid for itself in 5-6 months just in gas savings.  I know there is no way to get a 40+mpg car for the grand it's worth (or whatever I would get after my deductable).

i bought a 1989 pontiac lemans that got 42 mpg for $900 and that was like 7 years ago.  i miss it, but there's now way it's hold the family now!
