cold air and squealing pig

(1/2) > >>

footman:
So I have two questions that both have occured after I reasembled the engine.
1. The serpentine belt squeals like a pig for the first 10-15 seconds after I start the Jeep and then its quiet.  Too tight?  Too loose?
2.  I used the defroster today for the first time and I got nothing but cold air.  Is there a possability that the heater core is vapor locked or something?

rocket:
1. too loose (do you have a spring loaded tensioner or is it manual?)
2. vapor locked?  probably not.  Did you let the engine warm up?  you may have a blockage or bad heater control valve.  Try flushing your system (get the prestone flush kit, it splices into your heater line and you hook a garden hose to it and force flush the system.  you can also get some stuff to add that will break appart the corrosion prior to flushing)

mallcrawl:
also check that you got all the vaccume lines put back together right.
all the little flaps and valves in the ventilation system are vaccume driven

good point, i missed the part where he rebuilt the engine

mallcrawl:
the first time the vaccume pump goes out on a diesel makes you really aware of all the little vaccume driven stuff in your car

but I digress
