LTB AX15 for '93 YJ
« on: July 31, 2015, 06:38:35 PM »
Hey my tranny is on its way out so I'm looking for a "new" used tranny.  Anyone have an extra hanging around or know someone that does?  Looking on C-list but not a ton out there. Thanks

*syncros are going
*when the clutch is not engaged there is a high pitch whining sound
*there is some nasty grinding noises coming out of the bellhouse until I get up to about 20 mph

I figure rather than mess with it I'll get a new used one and maybe try and rebuild mine for a spare.

I had the syncros go too but I got used to matching RPM's when shifting and never really had any problems with it, lol

Be careful when getting a replacement, the one I got was from and XJ, while the external slave was the main reason for getting it some of the brackets didn't bolt up to it and the shifter is smaller. not a huge deal, I made do with some modifications.

Grinding and whinning noises !!  I can vouch for that. Drove rocks jeep a few times and felt it would not go another 5 miles but he wheeled it another 3+ yrs. Shows you how tough the AX15 is.

Ended up finding one on c-list, the seller has a car lift and tranny jack so we are doing the swap at his house for a little extra cash.  So hopefully by next Sunday night the last of a long list of issues I've been plagued with will be solved... fingers crossed.  I'm getting tired of not being able to wheel because of issue with the drivetrain.

New tranny installed and it shifts like its brand new.  Everything that could of gone wrong it but luckily the guy I bought it off of was awesome and we were able to come through all the issues.  While it was on the lift I figured out what has been blowing my u-joints, the yoke to the pumpkin has a lot of slop in it and needs to be replaced.  Anyone change out the yoke before? Something I can handle on my own?

Are you still planning on the 8.8 swap?

I would do the swap earlier if possible. Changing the yoke is easy, but who knows if there are other issues with that stock turdy 5 rear. The 8.8 swap is really a weekend swap or less. Are you running the SYE and CV driveshaft already?

I'm still running all stock, I was planning on doing all 3 at once.  Get the axle in, install the SYE, then measure for the driveshaft and get one from Tom Woods.
