to late my red neCk contraptIon Has been on Its side twice since I left Groton In need less to say when you nudge a shackle on a fully compressed leaf spring It will unload just enough to cause my jeep to softly lay down on It side the only thing that make mad Is that I did not tweak the stock cage enough to warant replacing and I did not Get any pics

when you roll it is a lot less scary to roll to the right then the left

I flipped my CJ ('79 with a 4" lift) on the road in wet conditions after Hurricane Gloria. Came around the first of an "S" curve in Bristol. The road was JUST repaved and wet....a come bombing around the corner and got sideways so fast it was like I was on ice. I'm heading sideways into the curb and thinking "oh shiat" and grabbing the steering wheel tight with both hands. It went sideways, I pop outta the driver's ragtop door, land on my back and watch my Jeep go over me about a foot over my nose. The roll started sideways and went every which way, it bent both ends of my angle iron rear bumper in different directions, one side bent up and the other down. I lifted my head after it went over me and saw the windshield shoot out of the frame like ya spit a watermelon seed and smash in the street. It rolled around a telephone pole, bounced in the air and landed on in the middle of the road on all 4 tires....radio STILL playing.

The people across the street run over and ask if I was OK...told them I was fine. They tell me that I was the SECOND Jeep to flip here, the other landed on their front lawn. I looked over and sure enough, the front lawn was all torn up. I get up, walk over and turn off the radio and the ignition. Full control.....

The cops come, they too are concerned that I was OK and I repeat that I've never been better. One cop looks at me, looks at the Jeep, looks back at me and tells me that if I can get it started he won't give me a ticket....he said he wouldn't give me a ticket anyhow, I was the only one who suffered any damage. I reach in and push up the rag top, hop in, turn the key and the 258 roars to life. I drive away holding onto my rag top so it doesn't blow off and cranking my tunes.

Every side had some sort of sheet metal damage and the only thing really touched was the soft top.

Same Jeep, new adventure.

I was living in Bristol and going to night school at Hartford State Technical College, commuting up I-84. One night, just as I was approaching the Road to Nowhere (route 9 New Britain/Farmington) I get a loud "BANG" from under the hood and the sound of bells. I'm thinking WTF?? I pull off the highway and open the hood...and there it is, a big hole in the front cylinder wall and the connecting rod sticking out. The connecting rod let go about half way up and the piston stayed up while the connecting rod banged inside the cylinder, sounding like a bell.

Found a Pacer with a 258 and swapped it out. One day I get stuck in soft dirt up the top of the street with my trailer filled with rocks, no biggie, drop it down into low and put it in first (the tranny only had 3 forward gears) and power out. I get home and notice there's a line of oil coming down the street....and headed to my driveway. I see a pool of oil under the CJ so I whip the hood up....in my haste I neglected to notice the horizontal oil filter was right above the motor mount and torquing the motor made the filter housing get pierced by part of the motor mount.

Never did fix it and never really did much off roading after that. The earlier flip opened up a lot of seams and age was telling on it, it was rusting out pretty good. Always carried an extra filter and a few quarts of oil after that.

Them 258's were a good motor.

How long you been waiting?

I've been waiting for 3 months now for my SAVVY sliders. They took orders and didn't have enough product. THEN they go to a different vendor to make the stainless steel rib and that was, according to them, a long learning process. I called Friday and Gerald said they were getting boxed up for shipment as they spoke...I surely hope.
