I've never installed a locker into an axle with c-clips, but I've installed a few over the years. Kirk put an Aussie in his 8.8 not that long ago so I'm sure he figured the trick if there is one.

Flex:
yea i think im gonna take another shot at it today but ya i know kirk has the Aussie in his 8.8.

Well the good news is that installing the second C-clip is the hardest part.  Check out this link for some tips.

After I lined the flat spot in the cam gears I used two flat head screw drivers to seperate the cam gears on the right side.  I then carefully slid the c-clip through the gap created and after 2-3 tries I got it on there.  The last part is to make sure you put the pins/ springs in the right way.  I have heard of people putting them in backwards.  Once you see how it goes together you will think to yourself, wow Aussie sucks at expalining that part of the instructions.  One last tip, grease works well at keeping parts in place as you work.  Good Luck.

Flex:
so i have decided that the thrust washers r to big so im going to get some thinner ones and that should give enough room to slide the c clip onto the slot. basically the problem was i couldnt get the gap between the cam gear and the axle gear far enough apart to get the c clip in.
