New guy here.
« on: September 11, 2009, 02:02:32 AM »
He guys just wanted to take a minute to say hello and introduce myself.  My name is Juan.  I'm new to the 4wd world.  Right now I have a jeep cherokee.  it's only 2wd so it doesn't go off-roading very well.  I was talking to some people  and they said that I can make it 4wd pretty easily.  This is my second vehicle.  My 1st was a 1983 Ford Escort which I had for 3 years until It got hit in the rear.  I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and being able to go off-roading!

First Welcome.

Second- the conversion is not that hard, but does require a front axle, transfercase, transmission out put (easier to replace transmission from what I have read), front and rear drive shafts.  If you can find a wrecked 4wd or one with a blown motor it will make the swap easier since it would have all the parts.  If you could find a 97+ you would get the stronger U-joints in the front axle, and possibly a 8.25 rear axle.  Any year XJ would work, as long as it is a 4wd.  I looked at buying a 2wd XJ a few months back and I looked into the conversion, but I found a good deal on a 4wd so I bought it.

I also saw something on desert racers.  Jeepspeed I think it was called.  It seems like that would be a cool way to get around.

Welcome Juan, we're glad you made your way to the sight. The desert racing Cherokees are completely different than the stuff we do, but it does look like fun.

PaulW... making up an imaginary friend has to be one of the saddest things I have seen an adult do.
Conversations back and forth with yourself, it is just f-in pathetic.

At least when you make up a new user for the forums do not use one of your old email address.  Bustedxj

1982 CJ7-stock

Owning a CJ is for manly men, they allows you to do manly stuff like auto mechanics and welding and drinking beer. Manly men own CJs. Manly men do not drive hummers, they receive them.
