Front Drivers side blinker
« on: May 08, 2009, 10:49:35 PM »
My front drivers side blinker doesnt blink. The light bulb lights up when I have my lights on, it just won't blink when I have the stalk down to turn left. The right front and both the rear work fine. whats the first thing I should look for? what is the mechanism that actually makes it blink? ???

I have the exact same problem with my XJ, but mine is intermittent and is on the left side just like yours. It usually only does it if I've been driving in the rain and then once it dries out it acts fine again. I'm guessing I have a short in the front somewhere that is causing it when wet. It could be a couple wires that have rubbed the insulation off of them. Let yours sit for a day with the sun out or take it for a drive and see if yours does the same thing.

If it's not a short or bad bulb, try your flasher.

If he has the same issue as mine, yes, the rear blinker will still flash while the front one will not.

see if it's a dual element bulb, if it is then see if one of the elements is out.

yes both rears flash, the right front works also. and the light stays o just wont blink. Could it have to do wih the fact that the side marker bulbs are out?

Replace both of the marker lights on that side.  That should solve your problem.  I just had the same problem with Bigyeller that I fixed by replacing both side marker lights.

on an electronic flasher, it does weird things like not flashing when any bulb is out

usually when you have one bulb out though, it flashes faster.

Glad it's fixed!

In a electro-mechanical one (the kind that use a bi-metalic strip, you are right.  in the all electric (uses and IC chip for the clock signal), it will do weird things like not flash.  I had that probalem when one of my front turn signals came unplugged.

your right.  but considering his machine is a 93 xj with 1984 technology, im guessing it's still a 552 flasher.
