Setting timing and Carb
« on: October 26, 2015, 11:25:53 PM »
Hey guys I need a huge favor.... I just changed out the engine in my J10 and have 0 clue how to set the timing and carb....  I took the #1 plug out and turn the engine by hand till I feel the compression, set it to true dead center and set the dizzy to the #1 plug.  When I turned the engine over is backfired into the carb... assumed it was out 180 so i took the dizzy out and turned the engine over 360 and still no luck....  I'm in a time crunch bc Im using the truck in my engagement photos this sunday.... can some please come help me in Gales Ferry this week.... will to buy pizza and beer

With the vacuum port it really can only sit where it is.

I don't know much about carbs and getting them set, otherwise I'd try to stop by to help you. I can't even get the carb on my moped to play nice anymore and it's supposedly simple.

followed the directions lol, I wasn't using the right mark on the balancer so timing was too far advanced.  The method I used was to remove the #1 plug and put a napkin over the hole and turned the engine by hand.  During the compression stroke the napkin was shot out and the mark on the balancer was right about at TDC so I put it to TDC installed the dizzy to the #1 plug and it was close enough to get it running and I adjusted it by hand till it ran well.

Of course because nothing is ever easy I went to press the clutch down the pivot ball and spring decided to fall out....  so now I am pulling the tranny to set them back in place..... not very happy
