Tread Lightly Reading/Online Course
« on: December 27, 2007, 02:43:45 AM »
A good tool to have under your belt - knowledge.

"The Tread Lightly! 101 Online Awareness Course is designed to teach the basics about the organization Tread Lightly! and more importantly how to minimize your impacts in the outdoors.  The course utilizes flash technology, audio voiceovers, knowledge checks, and interactive scenarios to teach the Tread Lightly! principles and how to apply them in real world situations.

Each person that completes the course is entered to win some great gear!

You could win:
A Cabela’s Hat, drawn monthly.
An “Outdoor Gear Package” from Coleman including a two-in-one Packaway Lantern, 1 two gallon jug, 1 sixteen-quart excursion cooler and one Tread Lightly! guidebook."

It's easy, takes only about 30 mins, and in the end, fill your name in on the certificate, and you can print it out and display it to let others know of your awareness! Enjoy!

So is the BOD going to make this online course a "you should really do it, if you are part of the club" thing or what?

Or are we leaving it as anyone who wheels, should just generally know this knowledge...

I certainly don't think that a certificate should be retro-active requirement for already existing member.
If the BOD wants to vote to make it a requirement, it should only be for new members.
Personally, I think it's one of those things, where most of the stuff SHOULD be common sense, and most of the important points are already covered in the general rules and regulations of the club (if I remember correctly)

Just my feelings on it.

I personally don't think it should be a membership requirement. I think it should just be something we point out to people as "hey, go check this out, you might learn something"...so the awareness is raised.

My .02 cents.

concur, esp since i never printed the cert when i took it.  I dont' feel like taking it again.  It'd be just as bad as having to sit through the pre-stand down GMT (general military training, al).  same common sense stuff over and over
