RTI ramp
« on: April 24, 2011, 12:20:15 AM »
So today i have found some time to start thinking about an RTI ramp. current materials i have are 2 I beam sticks about 8 feet long. my current plan is to have a base of about 8 feet and an angle of 30 degrees, this well make the ramp 4.62 feet tall. I think this is plenty tall enough for us. Let me know what you guys think ill try to get a price on the rest of the need materials soon as i can. Let me know what you think.

im thinking something like this.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f27/building-rti-ramp-471652/

heres some rough number i calculated out for steel.

18' 2x4
50' 2x2
40' 1x1

seems like a lot of steel i know, but i would hate for someone to fall threw the ramp while they where on it.

Do you already have a place to get the steel from or would you like me to get you a price on the steel from my buddy?  He works for Steel Teck out of Windsor CT. He can get almost anything you need in steel just not shure it's going to be the best price. All depends if it is something they normally stock of have to order.

This is something every 4X4 club should have.  Could bring it to every cruse show. I do agree that it needs to be made tough because someone might show up in a 4Dr Ram 3500 with a Cummins. Now that's a lot of waight!!!

I got a quote for the steel, for everything i posted above with all the tubing being 1/8" wall i have been quoted $331.50. We can talk about this at the next meeting i would appreciate a little extra to fill my bottle and a spool of wire as this thing is going to require lots of welding. As a side note i think for anyone interested in welding this would be a great time to do some kind of welding class as long as Bill will help due to he knows way more than me.

i think it should have a hitch on it and wheels with some 31s, so we can tow it with a jeep, instead of having to use a pick up

That has always been the plan. It's a must...

The ramp should be 24" to 30" wide, this way two rigs can park on it at the same time.

A scrap yard in RI has 3" channel stock, about a 1/4" thick x 8' long for 10 bucks each,
maybe not the ideal stock to work with but all the steel we need should be around $100
he also has some other kinds of stock at similar savings. Also in Essex, CT, is a good scrap yard.

if we make it a trailer, will we have to register it? is the club willing to front the cost every year to do so?

Military members are eligible for free registration in CT.  Just saying, I'm sure we can work something out.
