what you guys think i should go to when i go 35's?

Well, I'm running a 5spd with 3.73 gear currently and am going to 4.56 gears. With a 6th gear you could probably get away with 4.88 gears without hurting your mileage too bad and I think the 6spd has a slightly lower ratio than my 5spd so you would have a good crawl combination.

the aw4 thats in your xj

Gear Ratios for the AW4 are 2.80, 1.53, 1.00 & .75.

The AW4 is a light to medium-duty transmission. Ours, our callers' and customers' experiences with the AW4 are less than stellar. They have a tendency to generate excessive amounts of heat, and are known for unnecessarily consuming more engine power than some other automatics. The shift points in the AW4 feel odd, and the spotty engagment of the lockup torque converter is idiosyncratic.

But, it is a decent transmission, and if kept cool and maintained, it can offer good service within its range.

rodger's tj has the ax-15

The Novak Guide to the
Aisin-Warner AX15 Transmission

Gear ratios for the AX15 are: 3.83, 2.33, 1.44, 1.00, 0.79, for first through fifth, respectively.

In Summary
The AX15 is one of the good successes for Jeep transmissions. They are generally regarded as the best five-speed transmission ever installed into a Jeep. They are a worthwhile gearbox, and remain in production by Aisin-Warner.

and big adams lj has the nsg 370

 NSG370 Specs at a Glance

Gear Ratios (Jeep): (x-to-1):
4.46  2.61  1.72 1.25 1.00 0.84 R4.06

in order for adam to get rolling on 35's you will need at least 4.10's imho and a few more inches of lift but you could join the dark side add break out the saws all for a little trimming  correction alot of trimming
i am not afraid of trimming, but i do have the 2 inch coil spacers and i am planning on getting tube flares, similar to what roger is running, but the main issue for me is figuring out if i NEED to do other stuff, like in my steering and front end suspention

yes you do need to deal with your suspension and steering you will need long arms for the front and rear and a sye as a minimum i would not put  in the full 2" coil spacers but cut them down to an inch and make the othe inch up with a body lift  i am not a big fan of spacers but they do work and no sagging so 35's for you means big$$$$

yes you could do some things ahead of time but most needs to be done at once like if you wanted to do a body lift that can be done at any time

the sye and new ds i would do that once you get to your final lift hieght cause ther is no since in buying two driveshafts
and the long arms could be set up and installed on your current lift as long as is is adjustable so you can set your alignment most sytems are i am looking at starting with a tj set up when i go fully linked
once all that is done you could then stuff the spacers in

tsk tsk tsk...

sorry for the hijack if you want more info adam start a new thread end hijack

You dont need long arms to run 35s.  If you do the BL make sure you do a MML also.  Also get a TT at some point bc it doesnt make since to have big ol meats on the corners if you always get hung up on the TC skid.  Dont use the coil spacers, invest in some good springs bc you will notice the ride difference.  You will want some ajustable CA's (not completly sure you need them in the rear of the LJ but is nice to have) with heim joints to maximize articulation.
