So my geo crapped out.
« on: July 20, 2009, 02:43:00 AM »
and i've determined it's not really worth my time and energy to repair.  it has 199k and needs 1500 worth of parts to get it 100%.  so i found this...it's a 2003, 68k on the clock, that POS 3.7 dodge truck motor, and crappy slushbox trans.  i know it's a crappy wheeler, but for a dd, looks like it could be alright.  it's got the beefy look everyone craves.  the guy's asking 10,995 for it book is 12,400.  i've done some work for the dealer, so i may be able to get it cheaper, who knows maybe i can talk him down to 8900

My wife and my daughter have Liberties and they like them. My daughter loves hers and drives it as a DD. My wife drives her as a DD, but now my 15 year old can drive the car with his learner's permit. He doesn't like driving it and thinks it is too top heavy so we are looking for a car right now. I'll sell you my wife's 2006 in solid black, sunroof and just flipped 60k this weekend for $10k. It is not a renegade, but it looks sharp. If you're interested I'll have my wife take a pic of it so I can post it up. I'll even bring it to CT if you're interested.

If you look up any of the Liberty forums you'll see that they wheel them pretty good. They wouldn't be bad mild trail wheelers. My daughter took hers to the SilverLake sand dunes this summer and hers did really well climbing the loose sand. They just don't have much flex with the IFS up front.

We love of Liberty Renegade.  Our's is a 2002 with a 2" lift, Rancho RSX Shocks/ Struts and 245/75/16 tires (30.5").  It has 126K miles and besides regular maintenance all I have had to do is an A/C compressor(105K) ( the clutch went and had to be replaced as a unit), and a Radiator.(122K).  The Liberty will surprise you off road, and the 3.7 is a lot tourque'r then then 4.0 and makes 20 more HP.  The rest is all Jeep, NP2321, 8.25 rear etc...  and it tows something like 5500 lbs.

Ours never came with the goofy looking roof rack.

2002 KJ Liberty, 2" Lift, 31" tires/DD

The biggest you can go with out a lift is the 225's.  A 2" lift will allow for 245's, and unless you park next to a stock liberty most people never know it is lifted.  The stock tires looked too small to me, and now it looks like it should.  Jess is on vaction with our camera, so I can't take a pic, but sometime when she gets back I'll try to post a pic up.

let me know, tomorrow i'm heading out to dealers.  i've narrowed it to 8 basic choices.  wj, kj, civic, mazda 3, accord, quadcab frontier, dakota, s10.  if i get a truck then i'm still forced to fix my geo for the fuel economy.  driving 200+ miles per day requires 35+ mpg, but the whole family still needs to be able to fit in the vehicle.  so the prius is out lol

Owning a CJ is for manly men, they allows you to do manly stuff like auto mechanics and welding and drinking beer. Manly men own CJs. Manly men do not drive hummers, they receive them.
