Well we are finally settled in down here. What an abortion! Skipping over all the usual moving hassles, I'll tell you all about the rough stuff.
So 2 hours before we're supposed to check out of housing and hit the road, I finally find time to load the Jeep on the Uhaul dolly. Guess what! 33's will not fit using their wheel straps. So the Jeep is still in CT. I had planned on driving it down here in Jan when I come back to check out of Subscol but after making the drive I decided to just ship it. $500 bucks to have it hauled, so I'm going to see if the Navy will ship it for me.
On to our arrival. I called housing (Balfour Beatty) the day before Thanksgiving to see if they had a house for us. They said they did and accidentally gave me an address (67B Fox Squirrel Ct, St. Marys GA 31558). I called again the week before we moved to confirm. Again they said "we have a unit ready for you to walk in to the day you get here" HaHaHA! Monday morning we check out of the Transient Quarters at 0800. At 0830 we're getting ready to look at out new house with the BB lady. She opens the door and immediately says "Oh my! This isn't ready yet" So we talk her into showing it to us. it was filthy! there were a million dead cockroaches on the floors, counters, and in the cabinets. The counter tops had burn marks and holes in the laminate. The only good thing about the place was brand new carpet upstairs (nothing but industrial tile down stairs). So they said we would get a different place as soon as they found one. So we left and drove around aimlessly for hours. Several calls and lies later, we finally go into the original shithole about 1500. Then I was able to unload the Uhaul, and try to clam Amy down ( I don't think I've ever seen her that pissed).
The first night Amy had done 2 loads of laundry, when she noticed that the dining room (adjacent to the laundry room) was flooded! The floor drain in the laundry room had backed up and run under the wall. The next morning Kylah was taking a shower (upstairs) and we were smoking on the front stoop. That was when I noticed it was "raining" down the siding at my front door! Maintenance was really good about coming right out (I think the front office was kissing out ass for the moving in day) and did the best they could. We can do laundry now, but they have to come back and replace the floor drain. A contractor came to take measurements for new counter tops, so we should have them before Christmas.
Blah Blah Blah.... Things are getting better though. I've only seen one roach in the house, and it was in the bathroom upstairs. We're mostly unpacked, and haven't found anything broken yet. I am LOVING the 75 deg weather that has us wearing shorts and running the Central air!!!!!!!!!!
So if you know of anyone moving to Kings Bay, tell them to make someone go out and physically look at the house to see if it's ready. That or go out in town to buy/rent. The good thing is that it's only a 6 month lease, and they are building new houses down here in housing.
Well see you guys in January, have a Merry Christmas, and get some good snow wheeling in (don't forget the pepsi run on new years day)!
