P0743 code
« on: October 07, 2012, 02:54:46 PM »
So driving yesterday and the check engine light starts showing.  Go to Autozone and they scan it showing p0743, torque converter solenoid. On the drive home from there, it kicks into full lock up at like 5 mph. Giving gas kicks it back out. Could this be something simple?  Or is this a tear apart trans and replace solenoid?

Thats going to need some diag time. :(  Don't feel it's something as simpill as a bad TCC Lock Up Solinoid cuz something is turnng it on & off so I no it's working. Sounds like a wiring issue(something shorting to power or ground), Also could be a PCM issue. Unless you have spare parts to throw into it to see what will fix it then I would recomend performing the proper diag per the service manual cuz electral parts are non returnable once you plug it in & if it's a SOP from a dealer then you owne it no matter what. Look over the entire wire harness from engine to trans to see if there is any chaffing to the body, trail or debris damage. What im trying to say is look for the obvious. Just take your time cuz electral issues need time to diag. Thats why it can cost crazy amounts of cash when a shop is trying to diag an electral issue. Hope this helps you. Good luck

Gonna look at it some more soon.  In the midst of a master suite remodel right now.  Kind of short on time to spend looking at it. This jeep just keeps breaking.  Starting to piss me off a little >:(

Fixed it.  Tiny spot scraped through the harness, right near the computer, and grounded the red/light green wire that goes to the solonoid.  Taped the little spot on harness and put rubber cap on bolt that caused it. Good as new. 8)
Was beginning to think this Jeep was yellow because it was a lemon.  Thanks for the help.
