Too much work.  Besides if thoes would fit as easy as mine do, i'd have some that size.  I'm not doing a body lift or fender trimming.  But, yeah, that is a really good deal.  Jon, you should get them anyway !

Title: Re: craigslist parts
Post by: Erik on March 05, 2008, 04:36:25 AM
I can tell you this much from the pictures, it is NOT a 8274.

It'll need some TLC and a new cable or rope.

Do the obvious checks, will it free spool?  Can he hook it up to a battery to show you it works?  Those types of things.

Erik

Post by: Cheek-Bone on March 05, 2008, 11:19:53 AM
At $250 or even $200 if you talk him down, and then buy a new cable/line which will run between $150-$250 depending on what you get (wire or synthetic). That puts the cost at $350-500, you could almost buy a brand new winch for that much.

Cheek Bone,

You can't touch a new Warn for that price, maybe one of the Chicagos through Harbor Freight.

Thanks for the backup, I was getting ready to post the same thing.

Besides there are other winch companies out there that make great winches and their price tags are no where near as high as WARN. The name is what drives up their $$$. (This is my opinion, not intended to start a war).

superwinch, mile marker ... to name a few
same site has a mile marker 8000 for $422 shipped, superwinch 8000 for $659 shipped

or you can use the logic that jeremy, jd/scott, and myself have, in which, you can buy 2 or 3 of the smittybuilts at $285 for an 8000 for the price of one of those other brands ... meaning, even if it doesn't last as long, or isn't rebuildable, repairable, you probably still make out in the end over a 10 or 20 year period (as long as you don't mind it being "slow")

Zach (or anyone else interested) I live in Oakdale and could pick these up for you.  I have a utilitry trailer and could haul them to base or your place if you wanted.  This guy has been trying to off load these for a while (October atleast), so you may be able to low ball him and get them.  They have 3.73 gears, and he will only sell as a pair.

For probably $150 you could have a complete set that would be geared much better than you are now... And you could keep your others to build as you have the funds! And its only about a 3 hour job to swap them both! They will bolt right up!

If it wasnt a 35 id buy it for the axles.

The D35 in that one is better than the D35 in yours though. Through 1990 they used semi-floater non c-clip D35s. C-clip 35s didn't go into Cherokees until 1991. There's not much difference, but the old ones are a little stronger. I haven't broken mine yet (knock on wood) on 33s, but I carry spare shafts everywhere I go.

I have a 91 Jeep Wrangler. It needs work. I am looking to trade it for someone that can do masonry work. I want to build an outdoor BBQ pit/smoker. Look forward to hearing from you.

That 8.8 isn't worth the effort.  It is the older drum brake style, it is worth the extra $$ to get Disc Brakes.

If anyone is interested, I have an 8.8 w/ 3.55 gears out of a 97, complete disc to disc $200.

That one was flagged for removal already. I'm going to go look at that 74 tomorrow evening. I've set up an appointment with the guy and I also sent an email to my wife to see if she would be ok with me moving back to a soft top and selling my XJ. I know I won't get my money out of it so this 74 has to be in better shape than what the pictures look like in order for me to buy it.

I saw that CJ on there, but it looks like a rust bucket and I would never buy a 4 cyl Jeep. Nothing wrong with them, I just prefer at least 6 cylinders. As for that XJ, they must be short people to chop the top. There already isn't enough head room in an XJ.

It's either a scam or they forgot a number. There is no way that can sell for that price. My guess is that it's missing a 0 on the end of it and he's actually asking too much.

this just reminds me of when i had wig-wags in my 94 xj and used to drive through the local trails where the kids would party.  it would spook em and they would run.  of course i only did it because it was 11 at night and i was out of beer.  i loaded 4 coolers into the xj one night.  i wonder how the kids felt when they came back and there was no booze left.  think they got scared that the "cops" would finger print it and come get them??

This sounds like a semi-built XJ being parted in Mystic.  Prices are WAY to high, but give it a few days and she might realize a hitch isn't worth $250 when you have to pull it your self.  It sounds like it might have a swing out tire carrier?????  It says Hartford, but location is Mystic.

I noticed this today too. Sounds like a divorce to me, and she is vindictive, but you are right, a new front bumper is $300, so used even if it does come with the lights and you pulling it yourself makes it worth considerably less. I am curious if the alternator is any good...

I don't think she is parting it out. She's just taking anything extra off of it that she knows the Jeep doesn't need to drive down the road.

$7K is too much for that.  If it was a WWII era it would be worth it.

HD side protection for an XJ $200 OBO
http://newlondon.craigslist.org/pts/1372233724.html

I'm surprised he could use those as steps with only having attachments at the unibody frame with 8 self tapping screws. Most of the good ones that I've seen also attach along the pinch seam, which also helps strengthen the unibody. I wouldn't want to jack a XJ up with a hilift using those.

This isn't a Craigslist ad, but I saw these things on the internal Pfizer website today in our classified section.

Black soundbar
This is a Sound bar that came off of my 1995 Jeep Wrangler SE- It is used. The brackets that connect the sound bar to the roll cage will need to be replaced. The wires were cut that the end to hard wire it to the stereo, so there you will have to know how to wire this sound bar into your stereo system. Asking $15.00 If youhave questions, send me an e-mail michael.rhoades@pfizer.com I can bring this to the Groton main campus.

He also has spice colored rear seat out of a 95 YJ and the upper soft half doors in spice from the same 95 YJ. Asking $50 for the rear seat and $50 for the upper halves.

Jeremy, that 44 is drivers side drop its just upside down. look closely at were the shock mounts are, its confusing because of the spring purches but I guess its SUA?
Title: Re: craigslist parts
Post by: gearhead1985B on November 25, 2009, 05:24:04 AM
I don't think any j- series trucks were sua a lot of the shock mounts hung below the axle to allow for more motion rocket the axle you should look for is late 70 bronco they are a high pinion dana44  while on leave i picked up a 78 bronco hp 44 with dual piston calipers and there is enough room on the driver side so i don't have to out board my springs and the wms to wms meAsurement is about 65 inches

1994 Jeep Wrangler Sahara $2,100

We are the 2nd owner of this jeep and have had the vehicle since 1998 – It has reliably served as the additional “extra” car… We are looking to make a quick sale on the jeep – it is great in the snow and is fun to cruise in with the top down in the summer. The jeep was always serviced on time; oil/filter every 3k-4k miles, NEW brakes (pads rotors & drums) all around, water pump was also recently replaced…

For what some people pay for a set of snow tires you can almost buy this jeep!

The details:
Mileage: 151,000
5 spd transmission, 4 wheel drive (with 2 high, 4 high, and 4 low)
Tan Soft top (1 year old)
Green/tan saraha interior
Tow hitch
Newer tires (5k miles on them)

The jeep needs nothing – it’s conditions is typical of any jeep with 150,000+ miles – not perfect but suitable…
$2100 obo - The jeep must go!

TJ777, if this has 3.73s it would match the front you have in your TJ. It must be a 2001 or older axle since the 2002 model year Explorers had the rear independant suspension and not a solid rear axle.

I want that roll cage kit...  Can't spend the money right now though.  Need to finish was I've already started.

Found this 44 rear cheap though...

http://providence.craigslist.org/pts/2303447513.html

... and then these are great.  The 76 HP44 is the exact axle you need for a TJ HP44 swap.  73-76 HP44's from F100/150's are the perfect axle as they are not too wide for someone not wanting to go full width.  Plus, the radius arm wedges are the weld on style.  In 77 they went to a cast iron wedge on the F100/150/Bronco's.  This makes them a pain to fit into a TJ with coil springs as you can't weld to the cast (at least without a lot of extra work; even then its a big time pain),

IF this is not an aluminum Dana 44 rear, its a smokin deal!

http://longisland.craigslist.org/pts/2503806408.html

$700 for a D44 locked???  Sounds too good to be true.  I'm betting it is an aluminum one, but hey worth checking it out.

i have a d44 rear axle out of a zj (93-98) grand cherokee (perfect for an xj rear conversion).. this thing is badass, got me through absolutely everything; this rear is 100% good to go..
 lets see, it has:

ausie auto locker with new gears
chromoly heavy duty inner axle shafts
heavy duty skid plate/truss that covers underside of axle tubes all the way to the pinion
 heavy duty diff cover
 rear disc brakes
new bearings and seals all around (drips minimally from the pinion seal, but thats not uncommon)

over $1000 in parts alone, not including labor and the rear itself, so dont lowball me!

(i also have the dana 30 front axle for sale, it has an arb air locker)

The D44A was only avalible in the 96 to 98 ZJ V8 only. Sad to say but the 93 to 95 ZJ's had the D35. I owned a 98 ZJ V8 & could not find a locker for it so think the deal your talking about is a true D44 that someone had swapped into a ZJ. Might be worth looking into. The D44A is great for a stock ZJ but anything larger than 33's will kill it. Thats why the aftermarket didn't waist there time making upgrade parts for it. The internal parts are different from a true D44 & NOT interchangable.

This is about as good of a deal you'll find for an axle upgrade.

HP44 / Big Bearing 9" Combo.  Both 100% rebuilt, both locked, both running 4.88's.

Also included is a set of 38" TSL's (condition isn't included, so probably shot) on wheels that bolt to the axles.

http://nh.craigslist.org/pts/2687667691.html

All this for $1500.00.  You won't find anything that nice anytime soon for that price.  These would be really nice in one of your YJ's Rock.  Just saying.

That is tempting but for that price I would want selectable lockers!

I've seen this for sale for months.  I wonder if he'd budge on the price?

Looks like its a fairly well built rig for a decent price.

I know this guy, he was a member of SIS his name is Mike, bought some parts off of him before when he was doing this build. Some nice stuff. He is active duty Air force but is from Griswold.

That is priced way under market value for a Rubicon. Wish I had the money now. I'm hoping to be in the market again for a Jeep this coming summer.

I guarantee I got people thinking it'd be a link to my Jeep. ;D

Not sure how many in the club have D35s with drum brakes, but this isn't a bad price for converting to discs. The conversion kits are well over double this price.

If my Jeep was finished I would consider this for a trailer project. Just needs to be cut to a reasonable length and then sell the remaining steel for scrap.

Just saw these this morning. Should be a D60 front with Sterling rear with 3.73 gears as stock, but could be 4.10s.
