Title: rear axle upgrade
Post by: BayouGold on October 08, 2008, 04:35:54 PM
Anybody looking to beef up from a 35? i talked to axle & called a couple junkyards & found a ford explorer 8.8" rear assy w/disc brakes for $250. 4wd.com sells the super 88 kit for $620, just saw the same kit on 4wd groupbuy for $499.95. Zak.........

i have to go with a 44 rear due to the third link in the rear connecting to a skid plate around the pumpkin and the skid plates are only made for 35's and 44's >:(    (i will send another email to aev requesting the design get drawn up)  but if you could find a 44 out of a rubicon or sahara that would be much more productive  (or give me the numbers for the junkyards and i will do it)   8)

We could probably make you a bracket for the third link to fit it to the 8.8.

if i wanted to i probably could  (got a few connections on lower base)  but i just filled out some parts requests for some salvage yards in CT to start from that end

Check car-part.com for axles.  I found an 8.8 with 4.10 in North Providence for $150 and if you don't care about the stock gears, there are some with 3.73 up RT 9 for about the same price.  Much easier upgrade for a YJ.
