So I've posted before that we're going to GA. My transfer date is Jan 14. I'm trying to take 2 weeks of leave for Thanksgiving, check out of housing and become homeless on the 8th of December and take 29 of my 61 days of leave DURING STANDDOWN to go down there and get a house, register the kids in school, have Christmas, and get the wife and kids in school before I fly back up here for 3 days to transfer and fly back down there. My chain of command is flipping out that I will effectively be taking 2 months off. Never mind that I will only be missing 19 days of work!!!!! WTF! I guess that's what I get for busting my ass for 3 years to make things better at subscol.
Alright, I'm calmer now. Really, I like the Navy, but the knee jerk reaction to a guy wanting to take his earned leave to move as part of a transfer is kind of BS (even if it does give me 2 months off ;D)

Typical. If you were a dirt bag, then they wouldn't care.

That sucks dude...At least you dont have to buy a brand new uniform, one that you will never wear to work, or even wear again after you wear it for an inspection, because that uniform is being phased out by the Navy >:( >:( >:(...all because of one wonderful master chief :D
i just wanna break some stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about house hunting leave? I bet if you mention you want to take some house hunting leave they will forget all about you trying to use the leave you earned. Who is busting your balls about taking leave? Only the CO can deny leave, everyone else is just a recomendation, and if they check not recomended, they have to put a reason why they can not support.

Mike,
Do your orders say you are authorized 30 days of leave? If so, they can't say a word about it. You are entitled by your orders. Additionally, you get travel and proceed in ADDITION to your authorized leave. House Hunting is generally separate from your transfer, usually a few weeks or more before you actually transfer. I would suggest the same as Kirk, ask for house hunting leave. Besides, its free leave! And now you can carry 75 days over the fiscal year vice the previous amount of 60. Just my $.02

You should get 10 days for house hunting leave unless i'm mistaken.

Scott - Yes I'm auth 30 days, but I'm taking the time off a month before I transfer. The actual Milpers manual guidance on no cost house hunting TAD is 5 WORKING days with the preceeding and following weekends. The only way you get 10 days is if one of the weekends is a 3 day holiday weekend. I actually am requesting 7 days of HH leave transitioning into a 27 day leave period beginning on the 16th of Dec and ending on the 12th of Jan.

only 5 working days? I though it was 10, at lest that's what i had my last command convinced of (a boat, no less)

The rule (which is up to the command on if they want to follow it) is HH leave can be no more then 5 working days and not exceed 10 days total. I just checked with my YNC who is one door over from me. The normal is to start on a Friday after work, have that weekend, the 5 day work week, the following weekend and then back to work on Monday ( 9 days). Same is for Job Hunting leave if getting out of the Navy. You can't combine HH leave and regular leave, but I have seen that done too.
