So im soon to buy new tires bc the ones i have are falling apart and blowing up on me, not good. But the question is should i get a different rim size and if so which size, and just to answer a question before its asked the tire size is 36"

what bolt pattern are you running what type of tire are you putting on a tire with a stiff side wall will warrent a smaller rim and tires for a 15" are cheaper than a 17" i would stay away from 16" cause it looks like they are dieing breed when it comes to offroad tires but there is always a lot of tire selection for the 16.5" wheel

still running the standard 5x4.5, Im going to be running radial irocs and my only reason for not just staying with a 15" rim is if at some point i go to a Dana 60 i would like to avoid having to grind the calipers down to allow the 15" rim to fit. I do realize the bolt pattern will change, which means new rims, but i dont want to have to by new tires also. Also if i go with 17" rims how much back spacing should i go with 2.5" or 4.25" im leaning towards 4.25" so my rig stays closer to the street legal side of the road.

I've never looked at 17" rims, but there have to be some out there in betweene 2.5" and 4.25" backspacing, aren't there. I have 4" backspacing on my TJ and I like the stance. How wide are you going to go in the Irocs? Are they going to be 12.5" or 13.5" wide. If you go wider than 12.5" you'll have to have more backspacing so you don't rub your front control arms during turns. I would say a 3.5"-4" backspacing would be perfect. I have to agree with Adam that the 16" wheels were a quick phase and I'm not seeing many of those around anymore in the way of tire selection.

get a set of 17" or 16.5" if you want 60's i recomend the 16.5" for the 60's cause you can get recentered h1 bead locks for pretty cheap then you can get what ever back spacing you want but if buying now since you only want to chage rims i say 17" with a 3" bs if you can find it to help with the tire clearance on turning or get a good set of wheel spacers if you plan on the 36x13.5x17 i recomend at least a 9" rim i run my 33x13.5x15 toyo's on a 15x8" with a 4" bs and i run less than 30lbs they rub and i cant really addjust the steering stops any more due to lack of threads but in order to get a flat tread pattern i need 22lbs in the rear and 24lbs in the front
for the bolt pattern if you convert to 5x5.5 you will not have to change out the wheels beccause a d60 an be converted over using a combination of ford/chevy parts
but the descion is up to you this is only my recomendations

Ok so i think i have come to the conclusion im just gonna stick with the 15X10 rims bc in all honesty if i end up going to a dana 60 ill prob get bigger tires, and if not ill just shave the calipers down, they say there r negative effects with the shaving. Thanks for all the input guys!

I do not think there will be a side effect me shaving the caliper when i had the 44 60 combo i was going to rebuild a 15 would not fit at all so watch out and do lots of research

yea all the guys on pirate say u have to take about an 1/8" off the caliper in some spots but they say the calipers are so stout there is no ill effects, but like i said before if i end up going to a dana 60 ill prob. be getting bigger tires any way so, this really isnt to big a deal, but hopefully the dana 30 will hold up for a while i dont plan on locking it to soon and its a HP with a truss and the 760 u joints. So its a much as u can really polish the dana 30 turd with out chromoly shafts.

another thing i just thought of is that you can get military h1 tires and rims for cheap if you wanted to go that route

If I see anyone selling them at the show today I'll get a phone # but 16.5 wheels will limit your tire choices.

Those tires do look great Nate. I'll be buying a set of 35s for my TJ late this summer or early Fall. I just have to get the Jeep tracking better and fix a few things first while I squirrel away a little money for them. I won't go as aggressive as you though, since mine is a DD.

Plans are to paint with bed liner, and for anyone thats not sure what these are, they are front frame stiffeners 3/16" plate. Im a 3/16" plate whore but u should be if u drive anything with a unibody.
Thanks for the nice comment on the tires. Im hopping to have the whole jeep done by the end of the weekend, maybe with the exception of the SYE, due to being back ordered grr, but either way i want to drive it to the meeting as long as its nice out, guess ill see how it goes.
