ok so i have some new plans for my xj a 5.5 inch rubicon express lift kit, one ton steering, sye, cv drive shaft, and bushwackr flares, 4.11 gears. but heres my question i want to run 35s after i wear my 33s out and put the bushwackers on but will the chrysler 8.25 be able to handle 35s ?
-
shouldn't matter that much but is it a 29 spline or 27 spline?
-
good ? ill look into that it might be a 29 spline im not shure its got 3.55s if that might help tell you that but ill look into it more.
-
also have assess a few things. locker (many options), engine size, driving style, and how aggressive of a tread are you thinking? any of these left out will spell trouble.
brief overview you have given, they should work. (my 2ct.)

if its an axle off of a 97+ its a 29 spline

A 29 spline 8.25 should be able to handle 35s if you aren't completely a skinny pedal driver on climbs. The tubes on a 8.25 are the same size as an 8.8 and there are a lot of XJ guys on NAXJA running 8.25s with 35s without a problem. There just isn't as much aftermarket support for the 8.25 compared to a 8.8 or D44 so you won't find the variety of lockers, and gears for it.

it all depends on what you want to do. just have fun what ever you decide.
-
the only problem is what is your front axle? you SHOULDN'T run over 35's on a dana 30. (notice i didn't say you can't)

Axle had 37's on his d30 locked

yea, but he had alloy shafts. Already mentioned is the lack of aftermarket support for the 8.25. And factor in that you will need new gears before going to 35's. I ran 3.73 gears with my AX-15 for a while, but upgraded to 4.10's. 3.55's and 35's w/ automatic is not going to work to well.

agreed. but what would you really need for the 8.25 other than regear and lock it?

i'd double check the splines.
