alright so port picks came in today and im going to Hawaii ;D but im sad abit too because im going to have to cancel on the axle swap paul... we can still work on mine and do the pinion and try to redo the brackets and the axle shafts. but right now i don't see the need for the heavy duty axle considering i don't know what it's like out in Hawaii or even if i'll be able to off road. but im not leaving until august so i'll still be in the area and posting up a storm until i leave asking stupid questions.

There is some pretty good wheeling up near the north shore. If you plan on taking the Jeep and using it, I would recommend getting as many parts as you can now, since the shipping out to HI is $$$$$. What Boat?

JP mag did an article about wheeling there about 3 years ago. They actually dig the coral out of the ocean and use it as rocks along the shoreline. So your not actually rock crawling, but coral crawling. Search the JP archives and see if you can find the article.

yeah i figured that shipping would rape me for parts out there..... im not entirely sure what i wanna do now though... i'll probably try and buy a 4.5 from rough country before i leave and try to get it put on.. i have a few weeks left here ;D

u realize the navy will ship car parts as personal property

u realize the navy will ship car parts as personal property
You might want to check with personal property on that. When I moved in 2005, the Navy did not want to ship my spare parts. The moving company did anyway since they get paid by the pound. When the personal property office came out to look at our stuff, they told me they wouldn't ship car parts, scrap steel, lumber, or any of my fluids (oil, paint, WD-40 etc...).

What if the parts are in the jeep??

any recommendations for upgrades i should do now b4 i leave?

definitely some great wheeling in Hawaii! and make sure to get off of Oahu at some point.
-
I did some wheelin while I was in Kaui and had a great time. Although that red mud stains everything.
-
so is it mud? rock? sand? combo of all 3? what should i expect? probably gonna sign up at the forum for Oahu jeepers today and try to get in there. also thinking about selling my cherokee and possibly getting a jk? good or bad idea? haha suggestions from the people who have been there would be great. ;D thnx everyone for all the help you guys have given me over the past few months.
-
I don't think you can go wrong with a soft top in Hawaii.
-
yeah, but selling my jeep for what i owe on it will be nearly impossible i think. a budddy made a comment about it earlier but i still owe like 4k on it. if i could find somebody to buy it with no or minimal loss on it i'd be happy and just buy a new or nearly new jk out there. or here lol.

you'd be better off trading it in.

yeah thats true....... maybe i'll go today and see what they'll give me for it and see what somebody can do about getting me a used jk.
-
alright.... i remembered that im only an e-2 and i will never be able to afford the payments and insurance on a practially brand new vehicle. so im going to keep the xj. fix the clunking noise and get all of the lacked mainantence done on it.. try to get a rough country 4.5" lift and 31's on it. then i'll be content with going out there like that... o yeah, and get the tow hooks and trailer hitch mounted as well.
-
I see you on the Oahu Jeepers forum, I have a buddy out there that turned me on to them... You said that your orders came in? What Boat? I'll be out there in about 330 days... but who's counting.
-
haha, i think u are. but i haven't got my boat yet. just the port picks.
