Title: Any VW Enthusiast ?
Post by: kirksjeep on March 27, 2009, 10:51:32 PM
I pulled up to Autozone in NL in my POS 91 MKII Jetta and some guy that worked there came rushing out to check out my POS.  By the way he was acting you would have sworn I had a nice car instead of a POS.  He invited me to join a new VW club that meets at Chesters in Groton on Wednesday nights.  I just wanted to warn everyone that I may be leaving the club soon so I have more time to devote to a club that appreciates my POS.  ;D

All kidding aside, I may stop by on a Wednesday night to try and see how the club is.  They could turn out to be a great resource of parts and knowledge similar to JT4x4 is with Jeeps.  My Jetta has 141K so it may be helpful to meet some people that know how to work on all the quirky parts of a VW.  If anyone is interested let me know and we can meet up a roll over there sometime.

No 4wd, but they do have Baja bugs and the engines are used in sand rails.  A Baja bug would be a lot cooler then my POS. ;)

It's just a 1.8L 8V engine w/ 141K.  From what I know about the car, I am at least the third owner and it was in a front end collision at some point, the front cross member shows a little damage.  When it was damaged someone put a quad round grill, big bumpers and some GTI badges from a Golf.  They also put some 15" alloy rims and I'm sure it looked pretty good back then.  It's starting to rust out, and I am on the fence on fixing or getting another beater.  I'll probably just run it until it dies.

No, Had a couple friends withe the 5 cyl's, 2 jettas, a vw quantum and a couple audi's. They are BIGTIME sleepers!! Don't look impressive, but in the right hands, they can be NASTY engines!!! ;D

Keep me in mind if the engine is still good, might be able to swap it into my Zuk. 8)

Why do air ride on a Jetta?  Does it make it handle better?  I see them on mini-trucks so they can lay frame, but they are only for looks, not performance.

Don't ask me, its a Euro thing, I was never into it. He also put just about everything back to stock. Detunned it all exept maybe the exhaust, took all the sweet gauges out. I don't get it.

air bags would be cool on a jeep.  one tire in the air you could force it back down to traction.

Been done before paul!! I remember seeing it a mag a LONG while back when air shocks just started catching on. IIRC, the guys ened up ripping them out because it got too confusing trying to manipulate 4 wheels @ the same time while he was driving.
