Title: February Trail ride
Post by: Axle on February 14, 2009, 11:52:35 PM
ATTENTION PROBIES!!!

This months trail ride is February 21st.  We will be headed about two hours from Groton, just across the Mass border.  The trail is either a steep ascent or descent depending on which way we go.  The current plan is to do the ascent.  That will be determined by rig/driver capability, and weather/ground conditions as we get there.  We will be meeting at the Groton Town House at 0800.

Min. Req's.

31's w/ locker and/or winch
33's w/o either (at least one of those is recommended)
Cb or FRS radio
Tow strap
Tow points f/r
Battery tie down

This a new trail for JT4X4 that none of us have ever been on, so it's hard to know exactly what to expect.  You know your rig and your abilities, so plan ahead as best as you can.  We will have a trail guide from Eastern 4 Wheelers with us.  I will be the Trail Boss, so if you would like to go, sign up here and shoot me a pm.  There is a 15 rig limit.  The minimum is the club standard of 2.

4-5, but if there is snow/ice then that obviously adds to it.  Yes, this is a probie friendly run.  Member only runs are not posted here.

I already pm'd you, zjorvis97, but this is for everyone else in case they have the same question.  Probies get the name and location of the run on the day of the run.  Otherwise we would put the name up on this side of the forum.  This is to prevent those "I'm too cool to be in a club" guys from finding our locations and thrashing them.  Don't take it personal.  When you become a member, you get all that info.

Not a prob, and don't think I was trying to put you on the spot with this post.  ;D  Actually, I signed up on here a while ago, just keep forgetting to pop in. ::)
As for tonight, gonna be running around a bit, but that's what the cell phone is made for! lol (that is the # you have right? 860-480-4762
As for the
Quote

Yup! warm, and don't be a moron like I was last time, bring some food! lol Biggest thing's I can say is waterproof work type boots if you got them, the taller the better. (not wader tall, but more then ankle tall), warm work gloves, and LAYERS! Odds are good you are gonna be in and out of the trucks in a couple spots, gonna get cold, warm, cold, etc. and snowy rocks SUCK with no ankle support. I imagine most of you know this stuff, no insult intended. ;D
Last gas is in CT almost 10 miles before the trail, nice little convenience store/deli with a back parking lot if someone loses a fuel pump. (again)
Anything else I can tell you guys?
Oh! You got a rough headcount?
Thanx!
Chris

I was definitely impressed with the stock rubi wagon performance, Kp.  We had a good time.  Swagger discovered that he has the worst tires ever made.  EVER!   :D  We also discovered that it is a very stocker friendly trail.  In the future, it would be a good idea to fill up the list with smaller rigs to make it more challenging.  I would say 33" tires MAX for that trail.  However, it was snow and ice covered, so there's no telling what the actual terrain is like underneath.  It reminded me of the place we go to in north east ct, but easier.

HUH?!? I would call it doable, but I don't think ALL stock rigs are gonna enjoy it. MOST of the trail would be fine, but the stream crossing isn't something I would want to do in a stocker. Something like an S10 or a Tracker with good tires? probably. A stock kia sportage or a rav4? No way!! I'll o it, but I wouldn't want to watch someone else! lol
I agree with you on one thing tho, come spring I bet it's gonna look a LOT different!!

So a zj with a bb and 30's would do ok?
Title: Re: February Trail ride
Post by: zjorvis97 on February 24, 2009, 01:13:38 AM
I have a zj with 5.5 inches of lift and 30s. I only had on part i had to get pulled because I had a rock in front of 3 or 4 tires. I think having done it once I could do it and not have any issues the second time, just gotta keep momentum. I would like to see that trail in the spring, are there any other trails in the area?

My xj won't be ready for at least 5 more months, I'm looking at a 96 zj saturday with the bb and 30" muds.
