Title: Don't do clock your smittybilt winch this way. . .
Post by: rocket on February 10, 2009, 03:20:55 AM
So, I had my winch out and decided to clock it so the clutch handle wouldn't hit my grill anymore.  I remembered the instructions saying to remove the 10 allen bolts and just twist.  So i pull the 10 on the end (some w/ an easy-out due to rusting on the inside).  The housing won't twist, so I start pulling out the planetary gears, still nothing.  I look at the directions, no help.  So i go online and find out there are 10 bolts on the INNER part of the housing, hidden by the spool!  Now after hours of frustration vice 15 min of work, it's clocked.  I went ahead and replaced all the hardware w/ stainless since I had it out.

if you saw the directions, you would understand how one could get it wrong.
