do petitions actually work?

done

I hope so.

we'll see.

do petitions actually work?
All they do is show popular suppor for/against a subject. If the elected official wants to be elected again, he/she will listen if enough people speak out. If you are libral, you are not smart enough to figure this out, so it probably won't work

Down boy, down!!! Unfortunately, liberals and THEIR petitions are the ones helping to close down our wheeling spots. Something to think about.

well i signed it today.

ya know rocket this site you keep lining up to doesn't ever link to exactly the bill they want us to object too or even make real clear the wording of the petition I would be "signing"
-
That page is the petition. There is currenly no bill on this subject, yet. However several in congress, including nancy ried (sp?), and some governers (one who's husband used to be CEO of air america) have spoken out in support of bringing it back (Reagan repealed the last one).
A couple of links to check it out:

There are more, and these are not new. Bottom line is that the "fairness doctrine" will regulate what can be said on the radio. People should be allowed to say what they want (as long as its not cussing or xxx) and people should be able to hear what they want. it's called free market, capitalism, and free speach. this would not regulate TV (which has many more left leaning news stations than right leaning ones).
It would be one of many steps to silence thoes who disagree w/ the current political regiem.

Precisely. The lefts way to control the information disseminated so as to project their image through the liberal media outlets. Brainwashing in effect.
-
what happened when the fairness doctrine was last in effect was that talk stations converted to music out of necesity. No one wanted to listen to left wing stuff, so advertisers didnt' sponsor the shows, so they folded, so the right wing stuff had to go to be "fair." also the daily reports and cost to track all topics/comments was too costly.
