Title: Starter '92 Wrangler
Post by: IrishStPatrick on April 07, 2008, 09:23:36 PM
I just bought a new starter for my Jeep, because the old one just quit...
I don't have the tools to remove the old one since it's a 6-point star drive,
although a 3/8 drive seems to hold. I could really use the help to replace the starter.
If anyone could go to the hobby shop and help me out, I'd really appreciate it.
Please give me a call at 860-701-8054... Patrick

i've got torx (star) drive sockets.  call me 808-554-8859 if you want to come early to the meeting to change it or stay late.

I'm on duty today, but I'll need to have the jeep fixed tomorrow. If anyone could bring in a torx set, I'd really appreciate it. I'll be down to the Hobby shop around 1300.

I don't thnk the starter bolts are the traditional torx. They should be a bolt head you grab around, not in.
I  don't really know the right way to explain it. Is it an innie or an outie? If it's an outer star, take a 12 sided socket and tap it on and hopefully you'll get it. Regardless of what it is, replace it with a regular hex head.

x2

it is much easier to swap uncommon bolts for regular grade 8 hex. just for the probability that someone one the trail will have the same size socket or wrench if that is the case.
