Title: Reg's YJ build (pics included)
Post by: reg on December 26, 2007, 02:01:46 AM
Tomarrow morning I'll be doing some small stuff and hopefully getting the thing regestered.  but I'm ready to swap the springs, axles, and t-case into the new jeep.  When would be the best time for those willing to help.  I'm getting the hobby-shop, so we will be dry and warm.  I need either a pickup, or trailer to get the axles on base.  thanks guys.

no sure what's involved with getting my non-military ass, or my truck's non-military ass onto base  (does my truck have an ass?)

but I've taken all of next week off from work, so I'll be looking for fun stuff to do.

I have to work regular days for the rest of this week, then I'm off.

Let me know what works for you.

Al

Standdown will be over soon so everyone needs to pony up so we can help reg get this finished.

Let me know and I will help.

I think all we have to do is park your rig at one of our houses here, and throw you "ass" into one of our sets of wheels and drive you onto the base, if reg is doing this work at the Auto Hobby Shop.  ;)

I think Dauntless (Erik) and Al (?) are the only ones with trucks and trailers anymore.

Then, you would have to have one of the guys drive you to Pass and ID at the base gate, sponsor you and your truck onto the base (DL, insurance, registration all need to be up to date), and then you can follow them to the Hobby Shop BUT you have to stay with your sponsor every minute, and they have to escort you off the base. Pain in the ass. Easier to just hop in the passenger seat IMO.

Reg would probably appreciate it either way - the more hands the merrier!

OK... A TIME AND PLACE HAS BEEN SET

all day saturday and sunday. stating @0800 until however late you can stay.

we'll start at my house 28 raintree circle, groton ct.  and then move everything to the hobbyshop in the bed of someone's truck/trailer/ van.  who ever has one of these available this weekend let me know please.  I'll have the front axle free tomarrow so all we have to do is move stuff over.

things planned to swap:

front axle and springs
rear axle and springs
tcase and driveshafts

please start a list so I know how much pizza to buy and drinks to bring... sorry only soda at the hobby-shop.

Scott's crashed on the couch, so I will post for him  ;)

We have a commissioning ceremony at 11am on Sat, so I am sure when he is done with that, he'll probably head over to the HS. Don't worry about feeding him though  ;)

No prob  ;) As soon as I get done at the ceremony, I will change outta my slacks and silk, and put some steel toed boots, baseball cap, and jeans on and be over asap.  ;D LOL.

For the morning though before I get there - you wanna borrow the "little" camera? It's old, but it still takes good pics, and you don't have to sweat it too bad if you break it LOL. Call me sometime today (Friday), or drop by the house and pick it up. It'll work until I get there tomarrow.

You can get the biz cards, and the burned vids/pics Jeremy left for you at the same time  ;)

I haven't gotten 100% confirmation yet from Angela about what her plans are for the weekend, but I expect to be there early tomorrow if at all, however, it seems like it's a pain to get my vehicle on the base?

al, just come on down and you an ride with me.

rocket (sounds weird to say that) I would need your trailer, it is lower to the ground than the truck bad and the springs and axles are still togather,  so they are heavy

hope everyone can make it  so far I have

mallcrawl (morning)
jeremy (rocket)
hot rod
cheeks
reg (duh)
alex (until noon)
scott (afternoon)
jd (comic relief and picture taker extrodanair after noon)
AL (probally)
axle

who did i miss?

cold cut sandwiches and soda for lunch

pizzas for supper depending on number of wrench turners (and button pushers) left

Also... jeep is legal, so driving it on base is good, just have to get temp pass.

*Grins* Weren't the lights on the Squad Car pretty? I've always liked the red and blue together...

As for the cops....They saw the Jeep and went "WOW what a fucking sweet assed rig!! Let's pull her over to talk to her!"

 ::) J/k lol

Yeah. I kinda got pulled over.

reg and I were discussing coils and leaf springs, TJ and YJ variations, what we were doing tomarrow, setting up the schedule for the Hobby Shop wrench fest, what was gonna be getting done, how the other YJ looks and what needs chopped.... whatever....

Then there was a stopsign.

And I didn't stop.

yeah I um, kinda dropped into second on the stopsign...and just rolled Inga right on through like I usually do...you know how lazy of a shifter I am.  :P

It's all reg's fault  ;D HOWEVER since he knew the bloke who pulled me over, and the guy recognized reg in the passenger seat...I got out of it since the dude called it a "training ticket" for the other guy who was training to be a cop. I didn't even need to use my charming personality to get myself out of it. He did it for me!

Great watching out reg! ;) I owe you some beer cause they woulda hung my ass out to dry LOL.

So. All is well on the TJ homefront. ;) :-*

thanks to everyone who helped today, you all did more work then i did.  I'll be honest, the brake lines and welded cross member took some of my steam.  but now i know exactly what i am up against.  I am gathering parts today... actually within the hour.

tomarrow @ 0930 alex will have the shop open (just got off the phone with him)

phase one: 0930-1200
1: modify cross member (scott and i have an idea)
2: front axle mounted, stearing box brace in, and stearing hooked up (straight forward, just time consuming)

phase two: 1300-1400
1: get t-case in and mounted
2: rear axle (should be cake now, everything is good to go)
3. drive shafts (no biggy)

phase three: 1400-???
1: brake lines routed an replaced (cheeks I'll need your help with this)
2: replace/refill fluids
3. other stupid stuff

I know today was on the verge of a clusterf----  but i didn't really know what to expect.   But now I have a plan and we can get it drivable tomarrow.  this way there is no  "what should we do next"  i dropped the ball on that, sorry.

I'd like to help out tomorrow too, but obviously, I'd need to meet up with somebody who has spare room in their vehicle outside of the base, so I'll wait for others to decide when they're going before I can say for sure that I'll be there or when.

How far away do you live? I know Jeremy said he planned on church in the morning, then coming to the base....so he might not be able to help out with the ride in....

If you want, Scott or I could meet up with you somewhere (here at my house? You can leave whatever you are driving in the driveway?) and take you into the base no prob whatever time we get up and going....I don't know how long we'll be there, (couple hours?), but either way, everyone knows where I live, so someone getting you a ride back to my house wouldn't be difficult....

How did it go after I left?

Was that the last brake line that needed replacing?

Did they bleed okay?

Did you put transmission fluid in?  :)

brakes are just a pain.. time consuming, but between alex and scott, i've got a whole new brake line in the rear.

bleed good once we found all the leaks.

YES, i put in the fluid.

Oh yeah, let us also not forget that Axle got his exhaust leak welded up.

Wow, what a productive day!

Yes it did, thanks to Alex and his welding.  Now I can take that exhaust repair kit back to the store and get my $5.50 back!  Whooooaaa!  Unless someone has a need for it.  I'll probably take it back tomorrow, so let me know soon.

Congrats, Don.  Can't wait to see the final product!

So when is the official funeral haul away date for old frankie?

designed around the K.I.S.S. theory.  I'm going to try to mount my weather radio above it, but the bracket it comes with set up too high and would rub on the bikini top.  so I have to make a different bracket for it, but it will eventually fit above the cb.

Hey guys, my internet is finally back, thank you all for the help with my jeep last sunday I am so glad it is running again, I just feel really stupid for not finding it myself. My new springs in the back picked it up about two inches and I was glad we got so many things accomplished on the jeeps. i will also try to post more post this time around.

well today I got the front flares on..  the driver side fender is toast.  I stuffed the 33's WAY up there.  so looks like I'll be having a red fender soon.  got the cb wired up and working, maybe, no one was around to test it with.  now I have to replace a rear main seal, which after a conversation with cheeks, it doesn't seem that hard.  not to bad for a cold ass afternoon.

well, rather than piece together some angle iron, or paying a lot of money for a hood mout for my hi lift, I went to Johnson's hardware and bought 6 dollars worth of hardware and did it my way:

Tell me what you think.  Not bad for $6?

all there is left to do is cut the bolts down a little so they don't hit the body when I lay the hood back against the windshield.
