Title: Waterford Speedbowl work
Post by: Doball on February 19, 2008, 09:25:18 PM
As a club, I would like to get some PR by volunteering at the racetrack at Waterford. http://www.speedbowl.com/index.asp

This would be an opportunity to reach a larger audience, possibly get in at a reduced rate, and open this avenue as a possible higher attention level cruise night at a later date. I would like to offer this opportunity to OSJ also. I spoke with an admin over at the 'bowl and he satated that our help on race day would be appreciated, and that a "show" of our rigs might be possible, parking them near the ticket booth.

What I need are the names people who might be interested in working there on a few Saturdays. Looking at the shcedule the pits probably open at noon or 1 pm and regular days. I would also like proposed dates you want to do this. Opening day is Sat Apr 12, with racing Sun Apr 13, which are open on our calendar. This is a great opportunity to network with some local services that apply to our hobby. If this turns out well I'll take this over to EC4WDA and see if we can get some involvment from other clubs, at least for the cruise night portion.

So, discussion and sign-up's Go.

If the 12th is the night we are shooting for (which is a good idea for opening night!! IMO) then let's go for it. I put it on our calender already....

Not sure about this one. Something we will need to decide as a group, and what will be needed at the track. The 12th is just a qualifying day, the first day of racing begins on the 13th. I'll have to comfirm that, but short track qualifying is NOT going to draw an audience. Right now I would say both days or the 13th.

I think the initial research suggested parking and after event cleanup with a mention of some stuff in the pits.... DoBall is heading this one up and is still checking out the possibility. In exchange for this work, they are going to let us set up the rigs on the main front row on display to help promote the club abd such...sounds like a great idea and everyone seems to be onboard, just waiting for more details....

Ok, I just put the racing idea out  there as a "it sure would be nice", but seriously, I don't think we have a chance of getting our rigs out on the track. Maybe of we were to do this once a month or something, we would have some bargining chips for showcasing in front of the crowd.

Now that they've had time to review and discuss my initial contact, I intend to call today and try to set up a meeting for the near future.

theres a the jeep races up in southwick mass on the motcross track, but entering those would be a good way to remove the shiny from our jeeps

Don't they have demo derbys there sometime during the summer??? Maybe we could find a beater car and collaborate as a team and enter one??? Is there a way we could get some rocks dumped into the infield to crawl over during intermission at one of their events??? Just brainstorming...

You stole my idea...Dick! :P  Everything sounds great.  I would help out with purchasing a beater and after the derbie we could drive over it!!!
