Title: Bead Locks???
Post by: One-Eye on February 14, 2008, 01:30:10 AM
I know someone here had said that they have a friend that did beadlocks.  I was wondering if we ever got a quote on them?  Someone has to know.

They really aren't for certain sizes.  As long as I keep the same rims.  I almost slipped a bead at OFR, remember?  Just covering the basics.  Less PSI, More Traction.  Less PSI, More possibility to slip a bead.  Tiss all

One-eye,

What size tire on what width rim?

Poor mans bead lock is a narrow rim.  Tire is always pushing out.

I've run my 35x12.5s on 7" rims down to 6 PSI and haven't lost a bead.

Nothing we do is what the manufacturers suggest, so running a 12.5 on a 10" rim is bad for us, even though it is what is suggested.

33"X12.50" Tire
15"X10" Rim

Any other info needed just ask.  Thanks for the help.

yeah, the "cheap" answer is what erik already said, move down to a narrower wheel.

new steel wheels are cheaper than even the cheapest beadlocks

I run my 35x12.5x15 on a 8" and have run under 5psi without any problems

I am all about cheap but here is my delema.  I bought my rims maybe a year ago.  They are Pro Comp Rock Crushers.  They go for about $180 a piece.  I think I paid like $50 a piece because they effed up the order.  So, I am trying to keep the rims because they are actually a good set of steel rims.  Besides, bead locks look cool!

if this is a rig that you drive on the road...

beadlocks, especially most of the homemade ones, are illegal

everybody I know with beadlocks talks about what a pain in the ass they are to air up and air down ... this might be able to be fixed some by varying the design of the bead locking ring, but depending on the original design of the rim, may not.

Yeah, I know they are illegal.  I only drive it on the weekends if that.  Usually only when I go wheeling or to a JT function.  I'm really just trying to find out how much they would cost.  Tiss all.

bigger?  bigger how?

the same tires should look wider on a 15x10, but larger in diameter on a 15x8
