Hmmm.

Yeah ok, I've got nothing.

What I wonder is how I went from saying 'assholes' as in pural, and pertaining to those in my back yard, (and not in MY "backyard")....and it went to just one that WAS "my backyard".

Did I get a two for one special or something?  ;D

Yeah, I know. That was weak....

I haven't started yet.

Haven't decided, either I'm staying home and drinking some homebrews.

Or going out to get some sushi, and some sake.

Or going to Eli Cannon's Tap Room in Middletown to meet up with some other friends for some good draft micro-brews.

Post by: albsvx on December 30, 2007, 12:26:04 AM
I've only brewed 2 beers at home thus far.
I brought some of each to the party.
I just finished the last red, and now I just opened one of the few remaining wheats.

I guess I really need to brew this batch of porter that I already have a kit for.

I should also probably get around to restarting the jt4x4 dejabrew thread.  I guess I'll probably start it as a poll, with some potential dates.

I'm not sure what you have available to you on the base, but there isn't much "public" in this area of the state.
There's a nice indoor range in Salem, but they only allow permit holders to shoot there.
There's a good range that will allow both permitted and non-permitted shooters up in Bristol.  Kind of a drive, but it's nice because anybody can attend, and you can even rent weapons there.
I think there may be a few members that have memberships to private ranges in the area, but usually they limit you to 1 non-member guest.

I like the idea though.

I've got quite a collection myself, if we had someplace to shoot them.

I go to several public ranges in the warmer months, but they cost money to go to and of course bring your own guns and ammo. I pay by the hour or day depending on the range and the day. If you can get it arranged for behing the church I can bring both of my guns and my roomate would probably come and if you bought the ammo, he might let you shoot one of his many guns and by many I mean many. But yes, I love going out and blowing the shit out of stuff, aresol can are the coolest espeacially if they are flamible.

i was kidding about behind the church.
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread
Post by: Axle on January 04, 2008, 04:27:28 AM
I can talk to a guy who knows a guy...  I haven't been there in a while.  Like a few months.  I usually go up there on Sundays and shoot bowling pins for cash or IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) matches.  I am a guest myself and not a full member.  Only full members can go there and shoot for practice or whatever.  It's like $80 a year, which isn't bad, but since I only shoot there on sanctioned matches, I never became a full member.  So that being said, I'm not sure what they would say to a whole club trying to get access to the range.  Maybe they would give us a club discount, I'm not sure.  Honestly, it depends on how much interest there is in it.  I'll start a new thread and we'll see what happens.  Oh, and it's up in Norwich, pretty close to where Al lives.

As far as shooting behind the church, I would strongly recommend against it.  With all of the developement they are doing back there, we'll be lucky to have it to wheel with let alone do anything else.  Too many rocks, and too many houses in the area to shoot stuff.  We'd have the cops called on us after the first few shots, guaranteed.

Dude, it sure looks like the East Coast are a bunch of uptight MoFoooooos *grins* at least I don't butcher the English language bad enough to say things along the lines of "I'm like" and "She's like" and "He's all like"! Unless I am hanging out with someone who speaks like that, then I not only pick up the language, but the accents as well.  :P

LOL!  ;D I have to admit, I love language (which is why I talk/write so much). It's very fun to play with...and usually when my vernacular turns a bit colloquial, it is on purpose and usually because it is fun to "slip back on language".... ;)

Heh.

that blows hard!

At least Indy doesnt have to pay people to get to the playoffs, Indy had more injured players than any other team and was already down to its third and second string and barely got beat, but it was their fault they blew it.

Indy-champs, NE-cheats
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread

all i know is this,

other teams got caught for "cheating" and they blew up the pats for publicity sake. yeah they were dumb for cheating so weren't all the base ball players for "controlled substances". injuries cant be helped and SD didnt have the mighty LT. injuries are a faze. i'm not saying they aren't a great team. i was planning on colts and packers. but, weather or not cheating was invloved. cheating is in the eye of the beholder. the news exposed all the cameras and what the teams are allowed to "steal" pictures of.......

So Misty decided after Saturday's trail ride that she really wants her own Jeep.  One that Braydon can use when he gets a little older.  So, I looked online and found a Rubicon that is built even bigger than mine!  I went and picked it up yesterday.  I'll post pics this afternoon, but here are some specs:

Rockcrawler coil over suspension  ;D
Huge Nitto Grapplers on Sim-locks
Body Armor front and rear bumpers
Full cage by Fabtech
And since it's a rubi, it's locked front and rear.

The only thing it didn't have that she wanted was a winch.  Oh, and it's silver.  ;D

it's an old post, but maybe??  the design is simple, and I like it.  It would not be hard to add a tow point.  it is similiar to what I have on the front and rear of my yj.  I love it!

for the same money you could probally buy some decent steel and have someone weld together a pretty decent fromt bumper.  there seems to be an aboundance of tuing floating around these days:

Any thoughts on that one? It looks a lot like the green one you wanted.

I was just looking at the $80 hooks as something to get me by till i found/funded the front end i wanted.

Would you say worth the $615 though? cause if so, I'll just not buy temp hooks and add it on to my current order. Everything is Custom built so I wont have it till June anyway and it would save on shipping to do them both at once.

Go with your gut, not everyone's opinion.  It's your rig, you decide.  Personally, I think 600 bones is pretty high for an ARB lookalike.  Check out ARB's website, or even www.4wd.com or quadratec.  They look exactly the same, imo.  It is nice, though.  I would shop around, if you haven't already.

He's going to post it in the members side so that you all can have it. Sorry.. on another note, when you're uploading, you can use the BULK uploader. it takes a few minutes to do like 68 photos instead of hours. I'm not sure about videos. working on it now. i personally wouldnt go with plate. i like the tube bumpers with winch mounts.

get the hooks for now. use grade 8 bolts. you just need front tow points.

and BTW, the definition of "worth it" really depends on when you need to use the protective armor and how much it protects and how much it doesn't.

my tire carrier (for instance) is worth the $150.00, to carry a tire, mount lights, and still give me plenty of room in the bed to haul gear.

but if i flop, i dont think it will survive too much damage because it is 1/8 steel.

i like the idea of d-ring style for security reasons

Listen - as a sidebar, and FYI - Scott and I are having issues with Thames Valley Comms. The internet and cable services are all jacked up. Something about them having split the nodes in the new housing areas, to provide them with Thames connections BUT in the meanwhile, our house is waaaaaay down the line, and we don't get ANY connection anymore.

Anyone else having probs with Thames? I am even as I write, on a puter at the library because Thames won't have a tech available until Tues to come do anything...and THAT was after they tried wriggling out of Tuesday even. Apparently (Scott found out this morning), they had 2 techs call in to be absent for Tues. Thames was going to push our appt back...until Scott told them if they did, we were canceling with them, and going to Comcast.

:-\ I am not sure what to do...any suggestions?? I think Comcast runs more money, but damn....it drives me nuts lol.

So the new wheels showed up yesterday.  With lots of bare metal and scratches.   >:(  A week late.  My fender flares are still missing.  And I didn't get the little lug wrench that was supposed to come with the center caps and lugs.  So, I called 4wd about the whole thing.  They are tracking down my fender flares and will get them to me as soon as they find them.  On a bright note, they felt bad enough about the whole mess to send me a $100 gift card, which will cover the new steering stabilizer that I need.

Yeah...  After putting the 37's on, I now get the death wiggle from the left front tire at around 40 mph.  I put my beat up Old Man Emu back on, which is beefier, and it helped a lot.  So, as much as I despise Skyjacker, it is the only affordable dual setup that I know of.
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread
Post by: Seabee_BUC on September 11, 2008, 09:41:08 PM
You are wearing the 37's now??? Damn...Like to needed the bigger tires! LOL... Things like new track bar bushings and a new Pitman arm seem to help a lot with the death wobble. I've changed JD's bushings already (before she had a wiggle) and it made things amazingly tighter up front and at $12 for the front and $16 for the rear, its worth it.
Oh, the dual setup will help a lot. Or you could just go with a ram assist setup!  ::)
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread
Post by: Axle on September 11, 2008, 11:19:11 PM
I would definitly like to do a ram assist, but that's well past my allowance.  Which I've used up!  I'd be up the creek if 4wd wasn't sending me that gift card for the dual stabilizers.

Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread

I don't use Jeff anymore because of that reason.  He know's he's the only provider around Groton of our type of needs (gears, axles, lifts...), and he takes advantage of it.  I only use him in emergencies, and then I cringe before I get the bill.  I told Pete he needs to move shop down to Norwich.  He know's he misses out on a lot of business because of his location.  He would have charged $20 and 20 minutes to do those shafts.

To put it in perspective...  When my Tom Woods drive shaft broke down, Jeff had it repaired for $400 dollars!!!  I could have bought a brand new Tom Woods for less than that!  And, to top it off, it broke down again a month later...

Go Jeff! still up to the same ole' stuff. Well awhile back I told my exhaust story which cost Jeff probably an hours time and a couple dollars in welding wire... ended up costing me a pretty penny. I will give him that he is good at what he does and is not stupid, there is a reason that place has stayed there for as long as it has. DUMB-ASS SAILORS!!!! He will pitch it too you as a good Idea... mind you he drives a H1A, ever wonder what paid for that? his wrench and his good ideas. That's about all I got for this one.

When I rebuilt my D44 in my CJ7 I picked up a great little trick from my buddy. No need to press the bearings on the axle shaft. Put them in a toaster oven for about 40 minutes and get them toasty hot. When you pull them out (with gloves on) and drop them down the axle shaft they will be so expanded they will go all the way into place and as they cool they tighten right up on the shaft. He's the head of a Cadillac Dealer repair shop in Michigan and that's how we put my axles together.

Overland is a really good shop. I have had some dealings with them in the past. The price is alittle high but averages out when you factor in shipping and the tech knowledge right down the road.

It's not my steering wheel, it's the tires themselves.  They are what is wobbleing, so it's an axle issue, not a steering one.  I am going to have them rebalanced by a better shop.  Hopefully that will help.

just got the bumpers today

first, i have to get the front bumper powdercoated, then i can put that on

next i have to take off the rear flares, license plate mount, taillights, and tire carrier.

then test fit the corners, cut the holes for LED taillights, mark position of new metal flares, and upper points for the stinger

all the while also getting new rear crossmember in place (drop fuel tank)

get everything welded and then take it to powdercoat and finally install

about a weeks worth of night work for me, but looking forward to it, also bought a 44 for the rear

found it in a junkyard, it got there the day before i called, its from an 02 TJ,  3.73 gears, no locker(yet!!)  perfect condition, $1500 for the whole thing, drum to drum

That's what JD has in hers. The factory one seems to be fine. We put the ARB in it without regearing and it still does pretty good on the highway with the 3.73's.

"We cannot continue to rely on our military to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."  - Barrak Hussein Obama

" Basically, what Obama is talking about is creating a Committee for the Defense of Liberal Ideology and Political correctness funded by a half trillion taxpayer dollars. National Security for this crowd is not about stopping terrorists from killing our children. National Security means to teach our children to understand the terrorists and their motivations so that our children can learn how to live their lives submissively so as not to offend the sensitivities of the very sensitive America haters."

Why I love Craigslist...
 ;D

I have come to the conclusion that I must sell my TwoDaLoo, and that saddens me. I purchased this baby for my wife. Well, it was our 4 year anniversary and I really wanted to give her something special, something that I put a lot of thought into, and most importantly something we could do together. I thought what better thing to do together than to poo together. After countless hours of research I found The TwoDaLoo. The TwoDaLoo is billed as the world's first toilet two people can use ... at the exact same time. It’s supposed to bring couples closer together and conserves our water supply all with one flush. My wife was disgusted and has since left me. I explained to her that we could be as one if we could rock a big one out together. I can’t think of a better way to end a romantic dinner out. And how cool would Taco Tuesday have been – had she been just a little more open minded. It’s just not the same when you use it alone – and the empty seat next to me just reminds me of her.

The TwoDaLoo features two side-by-side toilet seats with a modest privacy wall in between. I purchased the upgraded version; you know the one that includes a seven inch LCD television and iPod docking station. I will provide my personal play list (should you choose to by her) – songs like “I’m Coming Out” and “You Dropped a Bomb on me” and “Love Stinks” will be just a few.

I truly hope that someone can use my T for T (toilet for two) and find the happiness that I was so looking for.

only problem with 5 is if you have a dispute with a teammate, like the ones that jump in the game just to kill teammates, you can only kill them 3 times before you get booted from that lobby. in modern warfare i punish those guys every game until they get fed up & go to another lobby. i do like the pack of dogs though!

So i figured i'd degrade this thread by turning it into the fart question/answer post.  I'll start.

Why are stinky farts generally warmer and quieter than regular farts?

Most fart gas comes from swallowed air and consists largely of nitrogen and carbon dioxide, the oxygen having been absorbed by the time it reaches the anal opening. These gases are odorless, although they often pick up other (and more odiferous) components on the way through the bowel. They emerge from the anus in fairly large bubbles at body temperature. A person can often achieve a good sound with these voluminous farts, but they are commonly (but not always!) mundane with respect to odor, and don't feel particularly warm.
Another major source of fart gas is bacterial action. Bacterial fermentation and digestion processes produce heat as a byproduct as well as various pungent gases. The resulting bubbles of gas tend to be small, hot, and concentrated with stinky bacterial metabolic products. These emerge as the notorious, warm, SBD (Silent-But-Deadly), often in amounts too small to produce a good sound, but excelling in stench.

So i'm a bit annoyed today: before the last run i had to replace the trailer wiring adapter on my truck (guess it wore out or got too wet??).  It cost me over $60 for the kit.  Today i was in walmart in Norwich and saw one on clearance for $11!  Of course i bought it, but now that i have a replacement on hand that cost very little, the one i just paid too much for will never fail.

wow sounds like that sucks.  working in a garage is great.  even better in the summer.  wearing long sleeves, jeans, and work boots.  coming back from a test drive when it's 90 degrees out, in a shop with NO ventilation, and the engine bay is 500 degrees, trying to bury your hands down in the back of the engine to unplug a sensor.  yup wrenching all day long everyday is the life.  hmmm  being on a boat all day long must suck though.  having the cool breeze from the ocean, not being stuck in the same place all the time, being able to move around, the surroundings change all the time, yup the navy must really suck.  makes me glad i wrench every day. oh did i mention the arthritis, bad shoulder, carpull tunnel, hearing loss, or poor circulation in my feet??  how about the 70k dollars worth of tools i had to buy?  yup wrenching all day long everyday is great.  it's the best job ever.  well at least after doing it for 11 years, i've gotten a promotion to head mechanic and now i make 38k a year.....hooray i'll retire in style!!

plus i forgot, mechanics are one of the most hated people in the world.  we're all crooks, and theives.  i charged you 2 hours of labor for something that took me 45 minutes.  damn right i did.  the freaking sign in the office says we charge book rate.  ohhh, and when your not psychic that's even better.  my car has 200k on it, i have no money, you just charged me $1000 to fix rotted brake likes on my 1986 ford f350, not
w the a/c doesn't work!! it's your fault, for that $1000 the truck should be brand new.  how can some system, completly unrelated to the brakes, fail because i just spent a lot of money on something i have never maintained, and you tell me that now i have to spend another $1000 to fix my a/c??  i'm now an irrate customer and i'm calling dmv, your a rip off.  all mechanics are crooks!!!.

yes the life of a professional mechanic is very rewarding.  all i have to say is thank god for tequila.

I'm sorry paul, thats a bit over the line there. Sure being a full time mechanic isnt a walk in the park and it reaks havoc on ones body. I've watched it tear away at the backs, shoulders and necks of many friends and family members, and the pay is definatley not woth the work.  But until you can say to me or any other Sailor, Marine, Airmen, Soldier, or Guardsman that you have had to spend more than a few days away from the family (that you get to see EVERYDAY), or work in a job that could at any point, kill you because of shear negligence, or becuase your buddy forgot to put the safety on his weapon, or because some bastard jihadist placed an IED in front of a combat convoy, that just happened to kill every one in the humvee except you, then you have no right whatsoever to tell me or any other service member that we have it easy.   The day i graduated boot camp, a lady called me a baby killer.  When my best friend came home in a casket form Iraq on 14 November, 2005, there were people picketing against the US military out side of the cemetery. Me, cheifkp, kirk, sandbox sailor, one eye, cheekbone,  deuce, gearhead, and many other members of this club, plus the other 5000 sailors and marines on this base alone work or have have worked day in and day out, side by side with systems that could kill us and the other 149 crew members on our boats in an instant, or have with out flinching, put themselves at the wrong end of an enemys AK-47 and worked in harms way to the truest form. Your job is hard. Ours is harder.  We go to sea and deploy to battle zones everday of the year with out regards to school play schedules or work holidays or when our babies are due.  When we bitch about our jobs the few times we do, we have the right to do so with out anyone making so much as a hint to a remark about how easy it must be for us "military types". So Mr. PaulW, please for further notice, i recommend you ommit your comments as to how easy you think we have it, or else you may end up pissing a whole lot of people off that you already know you are treading on thin ice with.

VERY WELL PUT SWAGGER!!! It brings a smile to my face that one of the younger sailors has such pride in his job, his Navy and his country.  Any time you want to transfer to "Big D" we could use a guy like you.

There are those out there that really go out of their way to thank those of us that put on the uniform.  I am always almost speechless when someone walks up, shakes my hand and says "Thank you for your service."  It usually happens on a day where the job has me worn out, and after that it picks my spirits right back up.

I can say, when I'm deployed, my job sucks ass. My last was 12 hour shifts -40 degrees, yes farenheit, snowing, In the armpit of the world. Of course with the Air Force I had a hardened structure to sleep in , and the food was top notch. However any time your away from the world as you know it and your family and friends for that long, it can really take a toll on your mind and body. It really is a culture shock. You take everything you have for granted untill you are away from it all.

All of us who serve, know what it is to serve and that the sacrifice is worth it. As Kirk and Swagger mentioned, for all the days were people look down on you, ask you stupid questions, spit at you, call you a "baby killer" it is well worth it when one single person once a year looks you right in the eye and shakes your hand and says, "thank you for your service!" As for those baby killer people, well I just think of them as people taking full advantage of the rights that people like us fight for. morons. I'm glad to have so many fellow service members in this club, and glad to serve right along side all of you. Even if you are a bunch of squids!

Well, let's see. 90 degrees in a shop with no ventilation in long pants/sleeves and boots. Let's compare it to 130 degrees, long pants/sleeves, boots, knee pads, elbow pads, kevlar helmet, goggles, gloves... Oh, and 30 pounds of body armor with another 20 pounds of equipment hanging off the molle system. Add to that dust so thick it looks foggy out while you are trudging throgh the streets of Baghdad on patrol. You haven't seen your wife or kids for 6 months and won't see them for 6 more...

Or, maybe you are stuck on a SUNMARINE... no wind in your hair there, no shuffleboard and cocktails on the prominade deck. Not sure where you get your image f military life, but it sure as hell is NOT the Love Boat. But you are welcome. I am proud to do all of these things and put my life on the line so that you can bitch like that and not be shot for it. Again, you are welcome.

Hmmm...Let's see where I can contribute to this interesting topic...  >:(

-Jump back to FEB 28th, 2003. It's my wife's birthday and I'm leaving for war.
-Mar 17th, I'm on the edge of the Iraqi border and the chemical alarm goes off, and we can hear missiles taking off from miles away and see the flame trails stream through the sky as the US begins it's initial bombardment of Baghdad. And we're heading right to the same area where the missiles are heading!
-Our battalion spends the next four months building bridges for the Marines to make their assault: dodging 12 yr. olds with grenades,  minefields, and well within range of enemy mortars-because we damn sure had to take cover more than once because they decided to try to destroy the bridge we were building.
-Fast forward to 2006 and I'm 1 month into a new shore duty and I'm sent off to Africa for yet another 6 month tour in a terrorist ridden region of Ethiopia and Tanzania, driving into villages where the streets are LINED with over 100 or more people; each with an AK-47.

Paul, you could work 90+ hours a week and still have it easy...

Do you volunteer, or do you just sit around saying "Woe is me"?  So you couldn't make it into any of the services, you could have served your community.  I served in the Air Force during the first Gulf War.  I was never sent overseas.  I didn't have a wife and kids then and the base I was at didn't need to deploy.  The B52's would take off from Griffiss and fly half way around the world where they would deliver their presents and then a few sorties later would return.  Even when I went into the CT Air Guard 10 years later and 9/11 happened I was activated to stand watch over a radar facility.  There were good days and bad but nothing like what those who deploy went through.  When I wasn't on duty I was volunteering with Ledyard Fire Company.  Most of them weren't military but they all were serving their communities.  Some of them had medical conditions that prevented them from going into the service but they still served, with honor, their communities.  I have walked into burning buildings for no pay.  I have been covered in blood from the waist down caring for someone who fell asleep at the wheel and folded himself in half, for free.  So don't tell me that because you have diabetes you can't do anything.  My grandfather had a medical condition that prevented him from going into the military, so He worked in the Norfolk Naval shipyards.  One last thing, don't say you "even tried the Coast Guard" like they are some pushover organization.  They don't have nearly the resources the other services do and they still get the job done and sometimes under worse conditions.  There is always a way to give back to the community and whining about having diabetes isn't one of them!!! >:(

i also was not accepted because of medical issues, but i do as much as i can for my local communities, helping out at shelters, donating time and money to and raising awareness for different causes.  small things make a huge difference, not for the people doing the acts, but the people recieving them.  i have no job and no money, i am still trying to find work, but in my spare time, i help raise over $1000.00 for the boston aids walk or put in 50+hours per week making sure the fire victims from the peach tree apartments have quality clothing, food, blankets, toiletries and other things, not to brag, but my point is that weather serving over seas or at home, do something more than sit around with the "END OF THE WORLD" complex... WOE IS ME

Yes I do volunteer.  I've been volunteering at Hungeford park in berlin since i was 13.  I have done the relay for life walk for the last 7 years.  I donate blood every time i get  a chance.  I haven't had a steady address for the last few years, but now that i've bought a house i am trying to get into my local town fire dept to volunteer.

I thank you for your service that you have provided for our country and for your community.  I mean no disrespect.
I no where in my post was complaining that i have diabetes and can't do anything.  i was answering a question about why i didn't enlist.
my comment about the coast guard was not "a push over organization" it simply meant that it is on the home front.  i have not been able to get into the service because if i'm ever deployed and rations are late, and i cannot get insulin, simply stated i'm *ucked.  i tried to get into the coast guard due to the reason that i would not be over seas and hopefully i would be able to get what is needed for me to live.

to the rest who serve our country.  thank you for your service.  my pre-concieved notions of military life are and were unfounded. i can only judge the service by what is presented to me by mass media.  i now have a profound respect for what you have been through.

omg, if anyone knows of a little ceasars in ct, i will give them a dollar, i havent had little ceasars in what seems like (insert random huge number here) years, the pizza was pretty good, but to get 2 at the same time for a great price and then the bread stix, omg if you have never had one before and see it, stopin and get some, absolutely the best franchise pizza there is.

My dad had talked about opening up a pizza place a few years ago when he was getting ready to retire. I can't remember which franchize it was, but I think it was Little Caezars. He said the franchise costs were too much for him and he would rather find a good italian chef and open a small local restaurant. He hasn't done it yet and I doubt if he will now that he's enjoying his retirement.

I adjusted my e-brake cable, fixed an oil pressure sender unit, AND tightened a anti-sway bar disconnect.  oh, and watched my friend replace plugs on her car.  (though i have to admit, fixing the sender unit was the worst: required removing the alternator and oil filter.)

when you roll it is a lot less scary to roll to the right then the left

I flipped my CJ ('79 with a 4" lift) on the road in wet conditions after Hurricane Gloria. Came around the first of an "S" curve in Bristol. The road was JUST repaved and wet....a come bombing around the corner and got sideways so fast it was like I was on ice. I'm heading sideways into the curb and thinking "oh shiat" and grabbing the steering wheel tight with both hands. It went sideways, I pop outta the driver's ragtop door, land on my back and watch my Jeep go over me about a foot over my nose. The roll started sideways and went every which way, it bent both ends of my angle iron rear bumper in different directions, one side bent up and the other down. I lifted my head after it went over me and saw the windshield shoot out of the frame like ya spit a watermelon seed and smash in the street. It rolled around a telephone pole, bounced in the air and landed on in the middle of the road on all 4 tires....radio STILL playing.

The people across the street run over and ask if I was OK...told them I was fine. They tell me that I was the SECOND Jeep to flip here, the other landed on their front lawn. I looked over and sure enough, the front lawn was all torn up. I get up, walk over and turn off the radio and the ignition. Full control.....

The cops come, they too are concerned that I was OK and I repeat that I've never been better. One cop looks at me, looks at the Jeep, looks back at me and tells me that if I can get it started he won't give me a ticket....he said he wouldn't give me a ticket anyhow, I was the only one who suffered any damage. I reach in and push up the rag top, hop in, turn the key and the 258 roars to life. I drive away holding onto my rag top so it doesn't blow off and cranking my tunes.

Every side had some sort of sheet metal damage and the only thing really touched was the soft top.

Same Jeep, new adventure.

I was living in Bristol and going to night school at Hartford State Technical College, commuting up I-84. One night, just as I was approaching the Road to Nowhere (route 9 New Britain/Farmington) I get a loud "BANG" from under the hood and the sound of bells. I'm thinking WTF?? I pull off the highway and open the hood...and there it is, a big hole in the front cylinder wall and the connecting rod sticking out. The connecting rod let go about half way up and the piston stayed up while the connecting rod banged inside the cylinder, sounding like a bell.

Found a Pacer with a 258 and swapped it out. One day I get stuck in soft dirt up the top of the street with my trailer filled with rocks, no biggie, drop it down into low and put it in first (the tranny only had 3 forward gears) and power out. I get home and notice there's a line of oil coming down the street....and headed to my driveway. I see a pool of oil under the CJ so I whip the hood up....in my haste I neglected to notice the horizontal oil filter was right above the motor mount and torquing the motor made the filter housing get pierced by part of the motor mount.

Never did fix it and never really did much off roading after that. The earlier flip opened up a lot of seams and age was telling on it, it was rusting out pretty good. Always carried an extra filter and a few quarts of oil after that.

Them 258's were a good motor.

How long you been waiting?

I've been waiting for 3 months now for my SAVVY sliders. They took orders and didn't have enough product. THEN they go to a different vendor to make the stainless steel rib and that was, according to them, a long learning process. I called Friday and Gerald said they were getting boxed up for shipment as they spoke...I surely hope.

Really to far for your jeep to drive mine has made the trip 5 times from the east coast to illinios and back.  One of the times i was towing a trailer with a motor cycle and 2 full width 3/4 ton axles and i drove my heep up from florida on my current suspension that was assembled by me

So with a properly built rig no distance is to far to drive  but paying for the fuel sucks but i love my 10MPG heep

The nearest truly legal wheeling spot is two hours away, and it cost 30 bucks a day.  Cant wheel the beach any more, Dunes are protected now as well.  All of the local "clubs" are a bunch of mall crawler jackasses that "meet" at Wal-Mart parking lots and such, and there idea of club unity is having some ridiculous club name or slogan with a retarded amount of misspelling like"draztik changes", and crashing barn parties with all the local high school kids. Not exactly my idea of organized outdoor fun.  Not a single one of these yahoos would know what to do with a rock, even if it was trying to crawl underneath their rigs. ::)

The bumper was a huge part of it. The fenders hit so hard it bent the body tub. Fenders were in like new condition. Hoo yah gen right. The shop said the frame was twisted 6 was from Sunday and this was one of the hardest pulls they have done. She's good now though. Can't wait to "break the paint in"...

Glad you were OK, Rig is looking Sweet!

Thank you. The me being ok part is the best part of it. The Rig can always be re built. it's just metal. The reality being now, at the expense of a salvage title, the insurance company paid for the repairs and paid off the jeep.. That's the silver lining i guess...

Only a few more parts and i'm "done".  A sentence I never thought I'd be able to say about the jeep. lol.

Yeah.. They gave me like 18,500 - 8500 payoff - 3500 buy back. So i got like 6500 back. I went to the shop and told him to fix everything but the airbags and I wasnt paying more than 5000 for repairs... He agreed. So 1500 dollars in spare parts (corner guards, lights, license plate bracket, hood latches, drag link ends, control arm mounts, control arm end link, tie rod ends, etc) and here we are now.

All of that said, these guys have little to no business near a welding machine.. Bill, when I get to CT, you think you can help me re weld in my control arm mounts properly? I'm all about a roll of nickels.. they just put gobs of metal on it and hopefully it holds...  :-[ If not, I'll have to talk to Pete at CT Axle.
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread
Post by: Bill3753 on April 16, 2011, 07:28:27 AM
We can check whats there for sure.  I enjoy welding, so I don't mind at all.

In the shop's defense though, welding vertical welds and welding up-side-down (like you need to do for the control arm mounts) is tought to do.  It takes a lot of practice to get it right.  When I MIG welding like this, I normally use some "tip dip" to keep the nozel clean and add a little extra flux.  Then, weld with 75%/25% CO2-Argon mix.  You get more splatter then you do with pure argon, but you also get better penetration on the weld when welding with the mix.  Final thing to do is prep the weld area CLEAN.  When actually welding, since your working against gravity, lay down small 1.5" to 2" beads.  If you try to weld much more then that you'll probably get the whole area too hot and the filler metal will fall out.
Title: Re: Official B.S. Thread
Post by: RnnngTrails on April 16, 2011, 07:01:51 PM
Oh I know how hard welding upside down is... I'm the emergency welder on my ship. Lol. I just don't have my own welder or any kind of mig experience. I only do tig. That is excellent advice though. I guess in their defense, you are right, but I did pay professionals to do a professional job.. I think that's more of my concern. That I have to do it over again.

Very true.  The one I found looked like it was just the frame.  No gasket or windshield.  Are you going to get it painted or just leave it black?

Frame is here. For all those interested, the 2003 Jeep Wrangler window frame and the 03 Rubicon window frame are not the same (inside trim wise..) So I will be drilling holes today and painting prior to install.  :-\

Obviously the window (which is now repaired):

And other various things...

Air filter and ducting needs to be cleaned out from all the oil. Fluids could use a swap to make them all the same viscosity. Air bags are here, just need to install them and I need to rewire the KC Lights back on to the window. Other than that, I'd say she did really well. Than you to GenRight Offroad for the awesome body parts.  Should be ready for the cruise day/club meeting on the 12th.  ;D

Had to hammer the front mounting bracket to the window straight to line up with the "new" window. One screw is screwing me cause it got bent at the head... Other than that, the bars seem fine. Havent tried the doors yet... Still too much other stuff to finish and hadnt even thought about doing that yet. Seeing as I dont run them unless it's the winter, it was kinda low on the priority list..

First coat of black went on today. Tomorrow will be coat 2. Debating clear or not as its only rattle can and can be redone for like 20 bucks. Looking like monday maybe between paint and airbags. Then an oil change should do it...

Can we start our Jeep Meetings with this??!

Jeep Creed

This is my Jeep, there are many like it.

My Jeep is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My Jeep, without me, is useless.

Without my Jeep, I am useless.

I must drive my Jeep true.

I must drive better than the Chevy who is trying to pass me.

I must out-drive him before he out-drives me. I will . . .

My Jeep and I know that what counts on this trail is not the
gas we burn, the noise of our exhaust, nor the smoke we make.

We know that it is the driving that counts. We will drive . . .

My Jeep is human, even as I, because it is my life.

Thus, I will learn it as a brother.

I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts,
its axles, its engine, and its quadratrack.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my Jeep clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.

We will become part of each other. We will . . .

Before God I swear this creed.

My Jeep and I are the defenders of TREAD LIGHTLY.

We are the masters of the trail.

We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is AMC's and there are no other 4x4's, but Jeep!

The new business cards are in and I think these guys did a pretty good job delivering what I had asked for. They are basically the same info as the old ones, just dressed up a little bit for a more professional look. If you look at the screen from a side angle and look at the back of the card, you'll see the JT4x4 logo laying in the background on an angle from bottom left to top right. pretty cool stuff. I'll have them at the meeting for the club.

I went down to LIORs BBQ/RTI competition today. Nice turnout of rigs. The club wanted me to tell Ed and Mel hello. So hi Ed and Mel! Also, I ran the RTI. 1260 calculated off a 94" WB. As my buddy Mike put it:
Me: "So was I the high score?"
Mike: "I'm pretty sure you owned it."

1260 what MM, CM,  is that the distance you got up the ramp or the distance your tire got off the ground.  i don't articulate so i don't understand the lingo.  ???

Great turnout tonight at Ocean Beach. I went down and was joined later by Rob (TheGreatChalupa). We had 4 other rigs stop by and park with us and talk about the club. 3 of them are interested in coming to the next meeting. (The guy with the Bronco said he's never wheeling it again... ???) I was able to park my rig up on the YJ and the crowd we drew was pretty impressive. At least a dozen people stopped to ask if they could take a picture of it. So all in all, successful trip. PS, one of the guys is a MR (Machinist) and fabs his own stuff (like his winch plate for example) and knows a powder coat shop.  ::)

I was wondering how many of you would like the club to have a facebook page.

I can get it started if some one wants to take it over when I go to Japan in March.

I think it could get us some more recognition.  We don't need anyone who isn't in the club to be friends/members of the facebook page just thought it would help us keep tabs with what is going on.

I'm heading out in the first group. I'm ready to go now except for throwing things in the cooler and adding ice.
