ATTENTION PROBIES!!!
This Saturday is a great opportunity to get your rig out and stretch your skinny pedal! Rocket will be hosting a run here in CT. PM him for meetup times and locations. Post on here if you would like to go so we can get a good rig count.
Minimum Requirements:
31" tires (lockers/winch recommended)
Tow points front/rear
Full size spare
Recommended Stuff:
Extra fluids
Spare parts
Tow strap
Spill kit (kitty litter, small shovel, trash bags)
-
I can go but the only thing is I don't have a full size spare roger is still waiting to get cnotes tire so I can buy rogers spare.
-
As TB, I will have a spill kit. I also give you permission to come up w/ a contingency plan for a spare (i.e. you can use someone elses[get permission]. you would need a primary and secondary loan source.) PM me w/ details of your plan.
-
I'm game, also need to get my spare together. I'm buying a 31 off Kirk tomorrow, just have to get it mounted.
-

Give me a call this afternoon, after 4pm since I left my cell phone at the house this morning. I'm going over to Kirk's after work to drop some things off, but I'll be around. I won't need my spare on my Jeep while it's sitting at the airport parking lot for the next 5 days. I'll let you take it with you. I don't expect to get a flat going to the airport tomorrow.
-
Does anyone know who it was that had the tire mounting machine? Need a quick way to get Tsunamis 33 off his steel rim mount my 31 on it and remount Tsunamis 33 on his matching spare. On a tight budget so looking for a cheap way to get out on the trail here.
-
or i could just do this haha.

-
I have a 31 on a 5-lug wheel that anyone can HAVE FREE.
Would love it out of my yard.
It is a Courser something or other....fine for a trail spare for sure
-
I have a manual tire mounter, if you bring it when you come we can knock it out.
-
For the guys going, I recommend some way of airing down your tires. I used a valve stem remover and backed each one out a few turns so all four tires were airing down at once. There are several tire deflators out there, and I have a set now, but the valve stem remover is cheap and easy to find at any auto parts store.
I also recommend having some way of airing back up. I think Ed and Mel are going and Ed just set up an OBA system, but it puts a lot of stress on the compressor to air a lot of tires back up. I lent Brad a heavy duty 12V compressor, but anyone else bring one would be helpful.
I wish I could go, it's a great trail. Lots to see, great trail to bring a significant other, friend, kids etc....

I'm having Tsunami Meet me at noon at the DD in norwich by the DMV. Then we will head over to your place. Would you mind unmounting his tire and swapping it on to his matching wheel? I have never used a tire mounter, so I don't want to be a PITA, but we would both really appreciate it. Im using his old spare wheel for the 31' I'm buying off of you, and then he would also like a 33 mounted on his new spare wheel, if you don't mind. I'll give you a ring in the am thanks
-
the hobby shop on base has a mounter and a ballancer.
I have a deflater (that i rarely use) that a couple can borrow (only does one tire at a time), but you will need yoru own compressor
FYI, there is ater that is well above waste high, so be prepared to take on water!
-
I got rogers spare while he is gone and I picked up the air compressor from kirk last night. The tire mounter on base is really quick and easy. If you need help I can do it I did all mine.
-
Kirk hooked us up, both the tires are mounted and ready to go . But thanks. Hey do you know if I am allowed acess to that hobby shop on base with an Air Force ID? I use the gym all the time, just don't know were the shop is. Anyhow, I wanted to find out which route you are planning on taking to get to the trails. I live up north in Griswold, so I was thinking of just going up 395 towards Punam and then taking 171 out to Union area. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Griswold&1s=CT&1a=73+Crary+Road+&2c=Union+&2s=CT. Let me know if there is somewere I can meet up with the rest of the rigs.
-

- Tsunami, unless we plan on getting back to town after 3:30 pm, i have to work to make money to play in the mud
-
*expletive*, wish i could go but im sitting pretty stock atm.... lol anybody want a passenger?
-
Just an FYI, i don't anticpate being back here prior to 4pm, could be 5. Justine or anyone remember how long the ride is (assuming no trees in the way)?
-
damn... count me out :-[
-
I thought the time on the trail was 3 hours??? An Hour up, 3 hours on the trail, and an hour back, any one else remeber it like that? I know it was raining hard on the way back, and we had to slow down just to see.
-
is it only an hour drive? Axle, PM me the directions/nearest cross road.
-
Hey I want to go but I can't meet up at 0800 I have duty friday and don't get off duty until 0730 is 0900 out of the Qustion? I went and got the spare and the air pump.
-
I just checked yahoo maps, it is about an hour from my house to the ride. If we leave at 9, get there by 10, start riding by 10:30, finish by 1:30-2:30, my house by 3:30.
the extra time between arival/start, and finish/leave is due to airing down (and swaping wheels). You could leave as soon as we exit the trail if you had too.
Is this better for everyone than leaving at 8?
I think TJ777 and Tsunami will have differing opinions on this, unless TJ777 leaves the boat straight for my house (30 min drive). then we would be back around 2:30 ish.
TJ777 and Tsunami, talk to see what is agreeable to both of you and PM me w/ the answer. I'll then post the leaving time (not arrival. on the road at 0X00).
-
Oh, some one asked where we will be; we start and finish in CT, but venture into MA for a few miles
-
I've been on that trail before. It's a good beginner run.
-
So I worked out a deal with a guy at work he is gonna come in and relieve me at 0700 so if it is possible to change at your house rocket I can make it as soon as I get out. I need directions to your house rocket when I came out there the other day I was following roger. Thanks I hope that can help out tsunami. Does any one want me to bring a set of spare control arms I have all my stock ones still?
PS:I just finshed painting and installing my rear fender flares finally.
-
Ok, so we are meeting at 0800 at my house. Tsunami, i think you can make it back to mystic by when you need to be there. We would be back here around 2:30.
However, on a trail, things can, and do, go wrong. Something breaks, a tree is across the trail, etc. So, if it takes longer than the estimate, that is a risk you will have to take.
-
I'm pumped
(http://i41.tinypic.com/214tusl.gif)
-
like i said... as long as i am in groton by 3:30, i can definitely go... just need to know where we r meeting up and what time. gettin stoked tho, my 5th rim is on (thnx andy) got my gear, just no extra fluids, not to say i cant get them that morning... i work for tips on friday night. still better for me to leave colchester at 8 am, i will leave groton at about 7:15, but i will be checkin on here for replys at about 2:30 - 3:00 pm friday to see what you guys say about times. 8)
-
I really want to go on this ride but I have to work.
So to help me over the depression of not wheeling Saturday, I ordered a lift, wheels and 35's for the JK.
-
wouldn't it be "cheaper" to take a day off of work to wheel then order parts? Better yet, use a vacation or sick day AND order the parts!!!
-
Take a day off..... not in the spring, I average 60 plus hours a week this time of year.
Vacation or sick days? As an independent contractor that is something I have never had in a job in the last 25 years.
I just needed an excuse to spend a few bucks.
-
k, i am definitely going... i talked to someone at work about staying late from the day shift for me just incase it takes longer... i am still going to try to be back for 3:30, but i am dying to get some dirt in my teeth :P see you guys at 8
-
Good, i'm glad to see you found a pair! ;)
-
Tsunami finding a pair
(http://i42.tinypic.com/2cnfddz.jpg)
-
I better not see thoes on any trail rig tomorrow!
-
You won't no worries, just couldn't resist throwing up that pic haha
-
Just a question Rocket. Since I'm a new guy, whats the deal with the waiver and release forms? Do we need to bring those filled out, or do we take care of that at the departure point? And also would anyone mind helping me air down and Air back up? Havent aquired those tools yet.
-
You can give them to me at my house (the forms).
I and others can help w/ the air down/up. I've got a deflater, but my compressor is slow, but it would work. (I just swap my tires; easier and faster).
Note for all (esp. new guys): as this is a family-friendly club, when we are on the radio's (CBs) and on the trail, try to limit the swearing and vulgarity. We frequently have kids and spouses along; just try to respect thoes than aren't used to a sailor's mouth.

do you have an FRS radio?
One more thing needed: a chain saw. The fuel line on mine just spit an hour ago when i went to start it up, and its way too small to be replaced w/ automotive fuel line :(
Ok, final count of bodies. List your name, and radio type (FRS, CB, FRS&CB, None). Copy the list in the post ahead of you so there will be a consolidated list (i dont' want to leave anyone behind). My cell is 860-655-3178, if you get lost or decide not to come.
Riders:
Rocket, FRS&CB

Well we didn't break any necks, and the only carnage I sustained was a broken tail light. I was literally stuck between a rock and a hard place.(the hard place being a tree) I think Eds wife got plenty shots of that. This is what I got of everybody else.

Looks like the rock climb has been dug out pretty good. I just hope that the trail doesn't become too populated.
The CJ7 in the first pic is the same one I saw up at MaBel. He wheels that Jeep pretty hard.
