You looking for dead soft or something with a little hardness to it? Harder stuff doesn't scratch so easy but it can a biatch to work.

I'm looking in to a lathe/mill combo so I may be needing some material also.

Easy to work with?  I am going to drill and tap about 16 holes in it. :-\
Could be 1/4, 3/8 or 5/16 thick.

Use tapping oil so the aluminium doesn't build up on the drill or tap...kerosene will work in a pinch. One of the easier materials to work with but hardened aluminium ya kinda argue with...

I'm going to talk to a guy that does car part fabrication over in Boz-rah and see where he gets his materials from..he gets it somewhere local (to me I believe), gotta ask about drills and taps too. I have a bunch of both but nice to know where I can replacements the same day

I haven't tried to pack the gear yet, tools and parts in one and recovery gear in the other is the plan.
