This Saturday we are going to install a SYE and the 8.25 rear axle in Roger's XJ. I think Brad wants to do a lunch box locker in his TJ, and Tim might bring out the "Minty" YJ so I can try and figure out why the D30 locks up after 5 ft in 4wd. We are going to get started on Roger's XJ around 0900. Any extra hands would be appreciated. If you need directions to my place send me a PM.
-
Sounds great. I'll see you at 0900.
-
I'm assuming this would be at your place in Oakdale Kirk? I'd really like to see how the slip yoke and 8.25 install. And I guess the locker install as well. So I'm thinking I may stop by.

bumpers are overrated

like pants

I'm going to have my bumper with me along with the winch plate just in case we finish with the other things early enough in the day to start working on the bumper. You can work at taking one of the tow hooks off if you want. I just need to make sure I have one front tow point for the trail ride on the 20th if we don't get the bumper ready to install.
-
looks like i'll be there. kirk can you pm me directions?

got Tsunamis new wheels mounted, and Rogers SYE installed. When I left they were still trying to get the old Leafs out, to do the axle swap and full leafs
-
well atleast everyone will know how to help me out if im still here and i get the money to do all this.
-
I had "date night" with my wife tonight, so I left Roger about 7:30. At that point we had the old leafs out finally, fixed the capture nut on the drivers side, installed the new leafs, and bolted in the new 8.25. When I got home at midnight, he was gone, so I am assuming he got the brake lines hooked up, the drums on, the shocks bolted up and the drive shaft on. We still need to swap the drivers side emergency brake cable and fix the emergency brake adjusting rod, since it snapped off while trying to slack the old cables.
-
8)the rims look great, i cant wait to get them cleaned up, thanx guys, i am gonna look for the quik disconnects on craigslist, need the extra inches for the spacers... ;D
-
sorry roger i wasn't there. we were working in the sail on the toledo friday night & i had a cable hit me in the eye & whacked the back of my head on the edge of some angle iron. i only left the house today to get a few things to eat & some headache medicine at the grocery. again my apologies, i was really wanting to help with that
-
You got your a** kicked by the boat!!! :D
Glad you're ok, Geoff. ;)
-
hey guys, sorry i missed the party. Sounds like some good wrenching. I'll be putting on my aluminum Savvy gas tank skid today. Geoff, sorry to hear about the whooping, I hope you are doing better.
-
Geoff, dude? We are supposed to beat up the boat. Not let it whoop our asses!! ;D Hope you get to feelin better Because we all know how big of a headache the boat can be.....Ah crap man, i'm sorry. I just coudlnt pass it up.
-
Wow Geoff! Make sure you submit the paperwork for Workman's comp. ;)
Roger came back by today to finish up. We managed to get the T-case shift lever a little out of whack and Roger was driving around in 4LO since it wouldn't shift. We dropped the case down a little and after a few minutes of pushing and pulling we got it working. The 4wd light/vacuum switch needed a little modification to get to work, but we got that working too. Then we tackled the emergency brake. Roger swapped the cables over from the D35 to the 8.25 while I made a new adjustment rod for the cables since the old one snapped off when pulling the D35. We also put the new front bumper on, which was not as easy as I thought it would be, but it looks really good.
After all that we rolled up to Jeremy's and rolled/ dropped the parts XJ off of the trailer for pick up and then brought my trailer home and parked it back in its spot.
It was a lot of work this weekend, but we will see next weekend if it was all worth it. ;D
-
Thanks for all the help this weekend Kirk. It was a lot of work, but the ride is so much better. All of the vibrations and clunking sound are gone and all I can hear is the hum of the tires. I don't have any more axle wrap and the XJ is tracking much better on the road. It was 2 full days of wrenching and I'll probably still have black on my hands for the run next weekend, but it was worth it.

Don't forget to get one of those breather tube/ brake line connection bolt thing-a-ma-chiggers.
-
Nukes, always with the technical terms.

looks so goofy without trimming. I'm jealous of your bumper, need to fab mine up that way. then again you still have to do a winch plate. anyhow overall that bumper looks pretty sick Rog.
-
haha you coulda called me and we could have found something thats broken on mine to fix.. i have many little things broken or ideas running through my head. and yeah that looks sweet roger. i can't wait to finally get some money to buy mine ;D

Just need to fab you up a couple of bars. It would be a good idea to add a little support to the front of the winch plate. Roger and I talked about adding his winch plate, and I recommended trimming the front grill a little to set it back an inch or two. It not only protects it better, but will put less torque on the bumper (shorter lever arm when winching). I know he still wants to add a few light tabs to it too. We just ran out of time after two days.

Yeah there is so much I'd like to do. I may consider cutting into my bumper and recessing my winch plate. Just don't have the time or tools/money to do it right now. Bars would be great though. I have some ideas for both. It was a good time coming out and working with you guys a bit. Looking forward to doing it again in the near future
