Title: Jeep Rally Somers, CT Sep 21st
Post by: calvynandhobbs on September 07, 2008, 03:35:10 PM
Is anybody planning on going to this? I just saw it on another board. I looks a lot like the Jeep Blessing I used to help run in Michigan.

We should set up a time for all of us to meet so we can park near each other.

As I said in another post, I went a couple of years ago and had a great time. They had a mini-rock garden you could drive, an RTI ramp, raffles with awesome prizes, alot of vendors selling great stuff, and all the cool jeeps you ever wanted to look at. Assuming I am not working or coaching my sons football team, I am in.

**In fact, the last pic in the gallery of jeeps is my old rig (now Axle's)

We went a couple of times. We went once before we got our jeep and won a bunch of prizes. We went 2 years ago with our old jeep and Ed won some axle shafts. It was a good time. We are definitely in for it...

Scott, let me know if your plans change and you can't go.  I'll swing by your place and grab the banner.

Stop by and grab the banner. No go for us, Rissa has a soccer game. Groton Youth Sports really F*cked the league for the next 8 weeks by scheduling games on Saturdays and Sundays. If I didn't pay for this stuff, I would have skipped it...

For those of us going, where and what time do we want to meet to convoy there?

Well, it's a little over an hour and a half.  I want to get there a little early so I can get a raffle ticket!  I would like to leave by 0700 at the latest.  That's LEAVE at 0700, not show up!   ;D  I can print out directions, but it would probably be easier to let you (Rodger) lead with your GPS.  I may have to go a little slow if my death wobble isn't completely fixed by then.  Hence me wanting to leave at O' Dark Butt Crack!   8)

I have no problem with getting up early if it means that I get a chance at one of the raffles. I can plug it in to my GPS and lead the way. So is there a good place for us all to meet at 6:45 so that we can be on the road by 7am? We could meet at the Shell station across the main road from where you live.

0645 at the Dunkin Douhnuts parking lot across from the Groton Town house.  It'll be easier to make a right on to 12 to head up.

Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to have my wobble fixed before this weekend, so I'm leaving that early to compensate.  Luckily for me, most of the trip up is on back roads.  Since I put the OME stabilizer on there, it only comes when I hit over 55mph.

That's fine Justin, we'll leave early so you can wobble there and I can vibrate there. I moved some stuff around in my XJ and now I have a vibration. I'm sure it has something to do with have 6.5" of lift without a SYE. It seems as long as I keep some extra weight all the way up against the tailgate the vibrations go away so I'm sure the squatting of the rear springs a little helps my driveshaft angle.

they sell raffle tickets all day, then they have the raffles at different times in the afternoon, depending on what level of the raffle and it will go throughout much of the afternoon. The rally is from 9 to 3...

Yep!! We won about 6 different things. A couple pretty good ones and well worth the money!!! (we will post down the line if we dont need something we have)..

Ed's RTI Ramp

20 Degree Angle

Front: 1028

Rear: 846

He did this to compare to the old jeep we had. I will try to get some pics up soon. I did not take many pics as ed had to do some track  bar repairs (thanks to some guy who gave us his stock track bar)  and my battery went dead

Another Track Bar??? Damn, I'd be on the phone with BDS trying to have them foot the bill for them to find an authorized installer near here and have them check it out. Something else has to be wrong to be causing it. Sweet RTI numbers too! What kind of things did you win???

yup first thing tommorrow when i get home ill be callin BDS. lets see we won 4.0 valve cover, pair 5-point harneses,$100 labor gift cert.,$200 labor on short arm lift install gift cert. both from Daves custom creations. and $150 off a premier power welder, and a one year subscription to low-range mag.all the stuff is cool but the gift cert. will probably go to waste as the shop is a little over an hour away and i already have a lift and dont really need any work done. and the welder is still gonna cost around another $700. eh well see what becomes of them.

For all the guys that made it, thanks for the invite.  I haven't seen that many Jeeps in one area since I did camp Jeep back in 99.  Justin thanks for the tips on the 8.8 swap, it is definitly in the works for my YJ.  I felt like an outcast with the wife's Liberty, only saw 3 others there.  The kids liked everything but the heat.  If I am still in the area next year ( up for orders) I'll would like to go again.

Wow, big difference with the 37's on there. A couple years ago when I took it, it got 1076 forward and 934 reverse.

The Pro Comp MX-6 shocks are shorter than the originals that you had on when you went.  They keep the coils from popping out.  I don't mind the small sacrifice in flexibility to keep all the springs where they need to be.
