Title: May 10th Wheeling
Post by: Axle on May 03, 2008, 02:12:53 AM
You won't want to miss this one!  Stocker to Built, everyone is invited.  This one is located in Mass, about an hour and a half from Groton.  We'll be leaving Saturday morning from the Groton Town House on 12 (Time TBD).  We should be back by 1800 or earlier.  Put your name on this post if you would like to go, and I'll pm the final details to you as we get closer to the event.  Directions will be available for those who will be traveling alone and not with the convoy.

This one has something to challenge everyone, so don't forget your camera!

I've had my a little over a month now.  The only thing I have done to it so far is put a front end cover on it.  I have several things I want to put on it once I can afford it.  I want to raise it and put larger tires on it.  I have 17" rims with size 32 tires right now so not sure what the best tire would be.  I definitely want to put a hard top on it. There are a nice set of rocker guards on quadratec that I want but cost a little over $500.  I also want to put a cold air intake on it.  It is a work in progress but no where close to where I want it to be.

I think this might be a trail you will have to ride shotty on ;) Just until you get all yours parts in and broken in. You don't want to put that much on your rig, and trail it the next day. Just not...prudent :) Soooo good decision! We have plenty of wheeling opps, no point pushing it.

Toxic is going to need a passenger seat to warm too, so anyone going, if you have open spaces in your rigs, speak up :) More likely then not, those people will be out crawling around on the trail anyhow lol...!

How many winches do we have going on this trip?

Hand helds, or CB?
Title: Re: May 10th Wheeling
Post by: rocket on May 07, 2008, 07:10:46 PM
I've got a winch and CB (and tow strap, tree saver, and snach block)

I was just thinking, RnnngTrails might be better off riding w/ a jeeper (Axel) since he has a jeep (of sorts).  Similar technology and size is closer (so rich tells me), and I could take Toxic (closer to where he lives, plus he is a yota guy).

No offense, RnngTrails, but I could use some wisdom from the Turtle Master himself.  You could learn a lot more from Axel than from me.  Deal?

Winches:  at least 5 that I know of.  Axle, Rebelbull, Bayougold, Rocket, Krawl4me.
We can use both cb's and hand helds if people have them, but I only have a cb.

I dont mind who I have to ride with, but where am I meeting my "Trail Dad" for this trip? That actually works out because Jenn can't drive the Mustang to save her life, so seeing as her car will be at JoDi's, she'll need the Jeep for work anyway.

Trail Boss said just meet everyone at the designated meeting place on Sat morning. Have Jenn drop you off. If that's a problem because of her work schedule conflicting with the meet up time, let me know. Then you can just hop over to whoever has a spot open in their rig ;)

heh.

"Trail Daddy". I like it lol!

Drive your mustang into the meeting spot, you should be able to leave it in the parking lot no problem? And we are all meeting about 0745, ready to leave the parkinglot at 0800.

Sykoticbulldog has decided to drop out after careful consideration.  That, and the lack of our ability to figure out where to put aftermarket tow hooks didn't help.  Note to future JK owners, get the factory tow hooks up front when you buy the jeep.  There are no mounts for aftermarket hooks.

I bet he can go to the dealership and buy some that will bolt right up to the factory holes. More expensive then aftermarket ones but they would fit.

That's what I recommended.  I called Bob Valenti's, and they said they would have to order them.  I didn't try anyone else.  He doesn't have ANY experience, so we agreed that it would be better to come along as a passenger first and see what it's all about.  Geoff is a full member now, so he and I can take him to BTC so he can get his feet wet.  That would probably be a better environment for him to learn how to wheel that JK.

That sounds like a totally MUCH better proposition then letting anyone get their feet wet at a place like *EDIT*, and will work much better!

Sorry Syk  :-[ Riding along is awesome in itself, but you will enjoy wheeling much more once you know what you are getting yourself into, and what you need to do to your rig to make wheeling more fun for you, and less of the butt pucker factor! Welcome to the club dude  ;D As we often say, be prepared to Just Empty Every Pocket! LOL

Bummer, dude.   :(

i'm trying to get a run for the following weekend, there are three that can make it next weekend, but not this one.

A run to where? To the same place where we are going tomarrow?

Not to piss on anyone's parade, but if you are trying to go to the same place, please see if it is in the aspect that you are hopping on with someone else's club in EC4WDA and piggy backing for that trail.

The offroad community, and both Associations, are really are trying to minimize trail overusage etc. You guys know the drill. We don't want to lose more trails to the way that CH and L went. That's the reason we have trail run schedules and coordinate with other clubs on who goes when.

We want to keep the trails open with responsible wheeling, not wheel so much whenever we want, wherever we can, that they get closed. Just going up on a run yourself with a group of others, because you can't make the scheduled one your club is due for, isn't something you should be doing.

:-* Not that I don't love you reg, or feel bad that you have duty and can't go to JT4x4's scheduled run tomarrow. Honestly that sucks  :'(. If you meant a couple of other rigs were wheeling next weekend on our private land, great! Have fun lol!  ;) :-* But otherwise, you need to stick to JT4x4's scheduled runs, or other clubs in EC4WDA who have spots we can piggyback on ;)

Good question. That is the Trail Boss's call. Axle, care to respond ;)

I know most of us feel if we can do a trail like we did last summer in a torrential downpour, then drizzle shouldn't matter...BUT it does make for a miserably cold time sometimes....

I checked sattelite. It looks pretty crappy all to tomarrow morning, early afternoon, then should stop though.
