YJ mirrors look the same.  I might have some, but I'll have to look.  I also have a modified motorcycle mirror that is designed to slide into the hinge hole so you don't have to do any drilling.  I'll take a look when I'm in the garage, and let you know what I have.

Do you have sliders or some other type of unibody frame stiffener under your XJ? I didn't see any in the pictures you posted. I don't think taking the doors off will be a problem for road driving, but the unibody frame will twist when wheeling and you may not be able to get your doors back on. They are part of the structural support for a XJ. I've seen it happen once to a guy at the Mounds Offroad Park several years ago. He wheeled all day without doors and when he went back to the parking lot he couldn't get the passenger side front door to line up and was also having problems with the back hatch not staying closed.

I had the same problem with my 89.  Took the doors off and couldnt get them to line back up afterwards.  so i bought a set of junkyard doors, gutted them and took the sawzall to em and cut em in half.  worked pretty good.

Yeah, i have read contradicting information about this topic. I'm only taking them off for driving for that reason. I have also heard of people bending their unibody with the doors left on, so who knows. But I'll take your advice into consideration, and for now i'll only offroad with the doors on untill I get either sliders or some kind of roll cage rigged up. th nks for lookin out!

As far as the YJ mirrors, that would be sweet if you find a pair hangin out somewere

I don't have any complete YJ mirrors.  I have one with out the mounting bracket, one with a modified mounting bracket (cut down to fit on the windshield hing of a YJ), a stock CJ style mirror and a modified motorcyle mirror.  The rasiest to install would be the motorcyle mirror, it would bolt into the hing and could be taken back off when the doors go back on.  Let me know and I can bring them with me, and you can see if any would would work for you.

Well the doors are off, post pics later. Anyways yeah Kirk if you want to bring those cycle mirrors to the meeting for me, i might be willing to take those off your hands. I kinda rigged up some mirror brackets out of clevis/cotter pins and some steel "L" brackets, but havent found anything as far as a mirror to bolt to them. So anything you got would be helpful. right now I'm having to resort to short rides with no doors, in fear of getting pulled over for not having mirrors. Loving the looks I get from people though!!! Some guy asked me "lose your doors?" haha

i never had any issues with mirrors, but i have been pulled over for not having my doors on the jeep.  started yelling at the cop about 5 wranglers that drove by with no doors on and he said "they'res are made to come off" i told him so are mine asshole, and he got really pissed.  turns out that you have to have a 3" door sill before you can remove doors legally in ct.

I'm looking up this 3'' law, do you happen to know which statute states that?

I asked an off duty dmv cop.  ya know the guys who pull over the big rigs.  but i dont know the exact statue.  im sure with some time on the intranet you should be able to find it, if not then use the argument that i did.  mr officer you pulled me over for having no doors.  are you going to pull over the 4 wranglers that just passed up too??  no you say??  why not??  oh they're doors are made to come off you say??  so are mine look right there they have bolts on them.  if they weren't made to come off then why did they put bolts on them from the factory?? oh the wranglers dont have bolts you say??  sure they do they come from the factory with a nut holding the hinge in. i yelled at him for profiling because i was white and he was a blcak cop.  plaid the race card against rednecks.  didn't work after that i got a ticket and had to have the jeep inspected.  needless to say i had my tube doors on before going through inspection.

Well after that last post I realized that my XJ does have a 3'' lip so that shouldn't be an issue. Tsunami (Adam) sold me some stock TJ mirrors along with some driving lights this morning, so that takes care of the mirror issue. Other than that I guess I'll just have to take a risk untill I get some tube doors. ;)

if you get stopped it just means you have to go through inspection.  put the doors back on go through inspection and then go to court.

Ok so heres a couple shots of what I ended up doing... ;D

Got TJ mirrors and some Hellas from Tsunami for a nominal fee (thanks man). Of course the doors will only be off for driving not wheeling, but I like the fact that I can push the TJ mirrors either forward or backwards for the trail. I mounted them before the door so I don't have to fumble with anything as far as mirrors when I want the doors off. They came out pretty well, other than the fact that they are at a slight angle. I'll screw with that later, its just the angle of the body panels. Also made some quick discos for the damn electric windows, and relocated the speakers to the kick panel.

Thanks Kirk your a sweetheart... lol

post a pic of your electrical disconects.  i'm thinking of someday getting tube doors for the taco

They arent anything fancy yet, i litterally just used male and female connectors for the ground and the same for the power source wire. But I made them opposite and taped the female connecters all the way to the top with electrical tape to avoid shorting out. Works well for now, but I'm going to look into doing something else when i get around to it.

heres what the inside of my gutted doors look like. As I said before my moron stepfather threw out my door covers and my armrest/handles. Not cool. I'm thinking about fabricating something rather than buying them from the junkyard. Any suggestions?

I used these connectors on a race car project I did back in college.  Easy to install, and easy to disconnect.

;D looks great man... btw, they are not hella, they are the stock fog-lights from my tj... i put the hella's on mine, either way, glad to see you got them on... did you use the mounting brackets at all?  if not, i like having things like that arond for random uses.  let me know.... see you at the meeting

as far as your window switches, when i took my doors off, i still wanted to use the rear windows.  so what i did with the power switches was mount them in the dash,  they fit perfectly where the rear wiper switch was, and since the rear wiper hadn't worked in prol 15 years i didnt miss it at all.

only 2 wires?  thats nice!  I would have way more than that (power windows, locks, mirrors).  It could still be done, though.  Looks good though!

Tsunami, I have your brackets, never used them, I'll get them to you later. And btw Adam those actually are hella lights even tho they are stock lol. They say hella right on them.

As far as the window controls, I did mount them under the dash for now. And It was only 2 wires cuz I decided I didnt care about power locks, and I moved the speakers. The power locks could be hooked right back up if i wanted though, I left the wiring intact. Good stuff

I have rear speakers as well, but I knew if i didnt relocate the front ones I would turn the rear up 2 loud and blow them out. You have a truck so its different for you i suppose.

Took care of the door panel issue today. Got itchy and decided to fabricate something. heres what i did. I call them Bad *SS Diamond Plate door Panels

Tools/Materials needed:

Daimond Soft Anti-Fatigue Mat (Home Depot about $15 a sheet)
Drill
Small drill bit
Sheet metal shears or scissors
Self tapping metal screws
Sharpie Marker
Tape Measurer

With the door off, if you can, lay the door on the ground and go ahead and start measuring, and marking off were you want to cut.

Trim the corners and cut the rectangle out for the door handle, I covered were the window/door controls were cuz mine have been relocated. Make sure to be presise because you will be using this as a template for the other door. This will make the process alot faster for the other door.

Now take your other sheet of Anti-Fatigue Matting and place it back to back (daimonds out) with the template you have already cut for the first door. Go to town with your sharpie and trace it out.

Cut er' out!

Now put the two panels back to back again, so they line up. With a sharpie (I used Blue to contrast the black) mark dots were your screws are going to go. I didn't measure just eye-balled it, but thats your choice.

Place the mats back to back again, on something your not going to drill into, like your moms porch (whoops!). Cement worked well for me. Now use a small drill bit to just make some guide holes for your self tapping screws. This way you avoid the mat twisting all up on you later when you go to secure it.

Lay em' on your doors, and make sure they line up how you want them to.

Get out your self tapping screws, and secure the panels to the doors!

Put your doors back on and drool over how sick your new door panels look...

I saw on "Rides" where a shop made some door arm rests/ door pulls out of some exhaust tube.  The did it in a tricked out H2, but it looked good.

Nice Idea Duece.  Looks nice, plus you can just spray them off if they get dirty.

I left the little things that the arm rest bolt to underneath, so as soon as I get some I'll just spray em black and bolt them up. Curious if your 2 door parts bin arm rests would line up? Let me know, just see if the bolts in yours and the 2 door are the same distance apart if you get a chance. I'd give yah a few $ for em. the GF can't figure out how to shut the door without them, its pathetic. haha. I wouldn't mind if anyone copied, I'm just really happy with the end result. I went into Home cheapo looking for sheet metal and walked out with that. haha. And yeah I didn't even think of it but it would be very easy to spray them off. Not to mention the matting seems to make a great soundproofer. Now I just need to upgrade to 97+ weatherstripping for the doors. The wind noise is horrible.
