Battery
« on: October 13, 2008, 03:45:48 AM »
Hey guys, I'm just wondering some things about batteries.
What brand battery you guys are using?
How long have you had it for?
Do you winch with it?

I have whatever came in my taco (toyota brand?)  i've winced a couple times no prob.  If you do a lot of winching, an optima yellow top wold probably be best (maybe two of them)

I'm still running the $60 autozone standard, but ever since I read this the yellow top will be my next battery

I had a standard walmart battery that i assume came in the truck. I put the winch on and the air compressor and because of the draw on the battery that the compressor caused, drained it in about 45 minutes. I switched to an optima yellow top and have been doing fine ever since. They're expensive but in the 2 months i've had it, worth the money. I've aired up 9 times/rigs and winched 3 times since i bought it. (so two more good pulls and i got my moneys worth out of my winch)

I still have the standard battery that came with it when I bought mine.  I have winched a number of times with out any problems.  I stay in the jeep, however, and keep a watchful eye on the battery level.  My compressor doesn't draw as much as Gary's, so I don't have to babysit it when I air up.

I've had a Optima Red Top since 2000, and never had any issues, and I'm two years past the 6 year warranty.  No winch (yet).  My Jeep does sit alot since it is not a daily driver, and as long as I start the Jeep every monthy or so, I have no problems.
