May be wrenching soon
« on: October 06, 2008, 10:55:17 PM »
I've had a small vibration for a long time now with my XJ, but after leaving Mabell Saturday the vibration has gotten much worse and really feels like it's coming from the front end. Tony took this picture while we were out there and I just happen to notice the angle (bend) of my front driveshaft. I think I overextended it and probably just about had it come apart. I'm going to try to get time to take the front driveshaft out and see if that alleviates my vibration, but my guess is the splines are bent now.

I'll take you up on that. What I want to do is remove the front driveshaft and take it out for a ride to see if the vibration goes away. If it does, great because I don't have to keep testing other parts. I'll just replace the driveshaft. I really need something longer anyway. The one in it is still the stock one. We can talk about it over at your place tomorrow night.

I hope you're referring to the XJ flexing and not the driveshaft flexing. ;D

I took the front driveshaft out tonight after work and then went for a drive. There was no difference in the vibration at all. I did notice that my transmission mount is shot though. The rubber part that sits on the crossmember has completely disintegrated. I'm going to put the front driveshaft back in and then remove the rear and take it for a drive. I can see by the slip yolk that it's resting in a different place than it was before, probably due to the transmission mount being shot and having one motor mount bad. Transmission mount and motor mount are going to have to be done soon.

I'm stopping by autozone tonight. They'll probably have the engine mount, but not the trans mount so that may be a few days before it arrives.

As stated above, I need to find a way to put them up elsewhere. JT4x4's Photobucket is maxed out so.. I can burn a few DVD's for those that want them...Although I don't have any blank ones...Those in a hurry can get me a blank DVD and I'll try to get them burned fairly quick...Otherwise, be patient until I figure out where to put them...

Did you already look at Webshots?  Are there too many restrictions?  There's also Shutterfly, and some others.
