Jeep doors on base
Gastank:
Sandbox is right. It is Driver's side and either the Pass or the window. I can't believe that they started doing that. That's retarded!
Axle:
I'm pretty sure it was just some junior guys flexing their newly found positional authority, and invoking their OFP (own f***ing program).
Doball:
So last night around 1745 I was coming on base when the seaman MA stopped me and asked....Where my doors were. To which I replied, ther're not required. It was actually pretty funny watching him get spun up because I was questioning his knowledge and authority. To make a long story short I wound up down at the cop shop, and the DoD civillian SGT couldn't find the instruction that required Jeep doors. He did tell me it was an OPNAVINST, the same one that covered motorcycles and it had just changed about 4 weeks ago.
So OPNAVINST 5100.12H from 28 June 2008 says NOTHING about doors required on vehicles. I'm calling legal today to find out what the current DoD and Navy traffic instructions are so we are citing the correct references, but I think we are going to win this one, untill the make a subase rule change.
Axle:
Good deal!
Doball:
Results of my phone calls.

CDR, researched and found nothing that would stop anyone from coming aboard the base without doors on their vehicle. I will ensure that this gets out to our personnel. Hope this helps.

Lt Pheasant,
Could you please help me with a traffic issue? I'm standing in for the SUBASE SJA at the moment.
I got a call from a sailor who was told that he could not drive his jeep on base without the doors. When he asked about what regulation prohibited this, the police officer did not know. The petty officer then asked the shift supervisor and was told that it was a new regulation, but the supervisor could not find it or give a citation to it. I could not find this rule either, although I think doors are a good idea.
Is there a new rule (or old rule) on this issue? Thanks. BAA
