The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for sportsmen or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don't listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

 

FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry.1

FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban.2

FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.3

FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.2

Well, I can think of a couple of reasons Obama supports so much gun control.....hehehe.

Seriously though, the solution is NOT more laws for the already law abiding gun owners. If the government really wants to crack down on gun related violent crimes, more money and resources need to be devoted to finding the "black market" dealers who are selling the illegal guns that will never be registered, more latitude for special operations against gangs, dealers, and radical militia groups. Of course the liberals don't want to face these options, they would rather blow up the high impact news stories like the 4 year old who got grandma's gun and shot herself in sam's club, or the kids who found dad's unlocked guns and were "playing" with them.

If you want to help reduce gun related violent crimes, vote in favor of tighter border control, and vote in more conservative judges who will issue warrants and approve spec ops raids on known arms dealers.

These solutions are not the be all end all, but a step in the right direction, instead of electing liberal politicians to take away our rights.

The best form of 'gun control' is being a good parent.  fortunatly I grew up in the midwest.  My dad and my friends' dad took time to teach us when we were young to respect firearms.  My son is 5 and my daughter is 4.  both of them know where the guns are (not the ammo).  My kids go with us to shoot skeet. and are familiar with the basic saftey rules of fire arms. (basicly known in the navy as "tab A"   

If parents take the time to teach kids how and when to use firearms then most gun related problems will go away.  Kids that grow up with the hollywood vision of guns, and the crazy impossible shots in the movies, only see firearms as a cool toy.  When a dad takes his son/daughter out into a field, and shows him how to safely use a gun to place a round in a target.  The child then knows what is expected to shoot a gun effectivly.  But the lesson doesn't stop there.  When a father takes his child out in the woods for the first time and harvests an animal with the same gun.  Now the child learns the final lessons in firearms.  The RESPONIBILITY  of ownership. The cleaning made the gun safe to use and accurate. The target pactice to place a shot that kills, not wounds. 
And now the animal is taken home, cleaned, packaged,  and stored for later consuption.  It's a full circle thing.  Anyone can figure out how to make a gun work, but the why and when is far too commonly left out.  "You shoot to eat, or to not be eaten." that's what I tell my kids.

Laws will never solve any gun related crimes.  law-breakers are not concerned with the laws anyway.  The only things laws do is further restrict the people who already obey the laws. The world will never be "stupid proof"  EDUCATION NOT RESTRICTION  The first canidate that says he/she will put government funding into hunters/shooters education will have my vote.

Being brought up in Indiana, I was raised the same as Reg.  I agree with everything he said and in fact was given my first .22 at the age of 5.  My Grandpa had made it for me and would let me shoot targets at his house every week (after I spent one month just cleaning the weapon, taking care of it, and reciting the rules that he and my dad had taught me).  If and when I have a child they will go through the same training I did. Hopefully.

I have heard of a few places up here, but memberships are expensive in this part of the world.  There is friend of a friend that has some land... if you are serious, I'll set up a date for a few of us to go shoot some skeet.  I need to buy a new thrower anyway, my last one has gotten worn out.

I know Justin, you, me,and Brian (one that doesn't own a jeepbut has a friend) and depending on timing, my wife.  That would make a good trip!  Just say the word!
