idk.. i left that part to him. I just did the install/painting. lol. I'll ask him when i see him again and maybe we'll get it. We tried changing the switch around on bottom. that got us reception further up. but we still have broken transmissions. Like if he were to say a 5 word sentence it would only hear the first 2.

Seabee_BUC:
Is this some kind of special antenna you guys are trying to rig up to work??? What is the brand name? Don't forget, until the antenna is mounted and TUNED with an SWR/Field Strength Meter, it won't work as well as it should.

Axle:
It's some type of military whip antenna.  It's f'n huge, at least 20 ft. of total length between the two pieces.

reg:
It's a as 3900 or somthing

came from the army surplus store

rocket:
Thoes are used for the Army's tactical radios(encrypted).  They are on every truck/humvee that rolls outside the wire.  I forget the frequencies used, but i'm sure they are tuned for the specifc range of the Army's radios, not CB radios.  You should probably stick w/ a CB radio.

Every frequency has an ideal antenna lenght that works best for it (I had some training on this for Afghanistan).
