Possible tow rig
« on: June 20, 2017, 07:38:16 PM »
So I may have found a tow rig. It's a 2000 f250 v10 4x4 extended cab. Any opinions or things to think about on the v10? It's got just over 100k miles.

Have the spark plugs been changed yet? I think the 2000 falls into the same issue my 2003 with 5.4 had in that the engine can spit spark plugs and replacing the original hollow plugs can be costly if they break when changing them. I was able to get mine out at about 65k miles, but was quoted $700 for the job from a shop due to possibility of breaking.

Good trucks though. Leaf springs can be rough at times, but it's a truck.

Yea the plugs and ignition coils are new, replaced exhaust, breaks, both drive shafts gas tank straps and battery. Has a pin hole in transmission cooler line and a cracked front leaf spring axle pirch. Body has typical ford rot. Frame is supposedly solid but I'm going to look tonight. Only thing that worries me is his price which is 900 which is low according to kbb.

That is low for that year. How many miles are on it? When looking at rust make sure you look at the bed rails and body mounts from underneath. They are very prone to those rails rusting away and the bed falling over the body mounts. Mine is getting bad in that area currently.

The truck has some issues. Cracked axle u bolt plate, leaking tranny line, bed rails rotted, front bumper rotted, bed sides and rocker corners gone. Engine sounds good no leaks at manifolds frame is crusty but solid. Interior is clean.

Can't argue with a GM product for reliability.

You can't, but at 17 years old a GM product will likely have the same rust issues unless taken very well taken care of.

Congrats. From the list you provided of issues it sounds like most of them are more cosmetic than anything else. Just got to get the tranny line fixed and the ubolt plate done.
