Ford 5.4 dipstick tube replacement
« on: August 10, 2015, 03:54:45 PM »
Before I headed to TX I went to check the oil in the F250 and when I pulled the dipstick out the top half of the tube fell out onto the ground. It rusted through where the tab is that bolts it to the block. I've done a little searching for how to replace it and it doesn't look easy. Anybody have experience with this and have any tips and tricks? It's currently duck taped into place. Lol

Last one I did Roger was very easy. 1 bolt slide the tube out, put the new one in and bolt that bad larry down.

I hope it's that easy. The things I've read so far talk about the tube being rusted into the block and having to punch it into the pan and remove the exhaust manifold for access.

I just looked at one of our trucks at work and it goes behind the oil filter housing? But this one is an 06' from underneath looks like a real P.I.T.A

That's where mine goes. I need to replace the exhaust manifolds on my truck in the near future since they are both rusted solid with a broken stud on each side and ticking so I may just leave the dipstick tube duct taped for now and do that at the same time as the exhaust. Although I am going to at least hitting it with some PB blaster and see if I can get it to twist a little bit. Hopefully it will just pull out, but from the horror stories I've read online I'm not real optimistic.

From my experience any tube I can get vice grips on I can usually get out. Do a little twist and tap the grips with a hammer.Try fluid filmThat is the best lubricant/penetration liquid I have ever used.

I've got AeroKroil and PB Blaster in the garage and they will be used. I've got it duct taped up for now and when I replace my exhaust manifolds I'll tackle the dipstick tube at the same time. Pam is taking Bailey back to school over Labor Day weekend so I'm going to start ordering all my parts to take the truck apart that weekend.

Exhaust manifolds
Oil dipstick tube
SPD Y-Pipe
cat-back exhaust to replace rusted mess I current have
