In that extreme case of trying to get pulled out I don't think it would have made any difference where your tow point was. If you had a proper bumper it would either have ripped holes in the frame or left the suspension laying in the mud as the body was pulled out. When pulling sideways like that he needed a crane to just pick the Jeep straight up.
