TAKE ACTION!
NY Assembly and Senate Bills that help keep our roads open stuck in committee... STILL!

Here in New York (and in many parts of the Northeast), seasonal use roads and old town roads make up a large portion of our recreational trail "system". Unfortunately, for years the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has seized these roads and posted them for non-motorized use, simply because they're in the Adirondacks.

There are two bills that have been buried in the Transportation Committee for too long. Year after year, these bills get lost there. Each bill, the Assembly version (Bill A00448) and the Senate version (Bill S321), amend the highway law to remove the ability of the State to modify, abandon or close roads within the Adirondack Park. The DEC does this with little or no public input, depriving us of these great recreational opportunities that, in many cases, are routes over a hundred years old and lead to other treasured opportunities such as fishing holes, hunting sites, and more.

Please help us keep these important roads and recreational corridors open for future generations by contacting your representative or Transportation Committee Chairman David Gantt at 518-455-5606 or send a letter to him at:

Committee Chairman: David Gantt
ALBANY OFFICE
LOB 830
Albany, NY 12248

Let 'em know you support these bills!!!!!

NYS Assembly (Bill A00448 Sayward)
NYS Senate (Bill S321 Little)

Getting these out of committee is only the first hurdle we face, but we can't get there unless there's a powerful voice behind them.

Thanks for your quick action,

Steve Alheim
