shifting sound!?!?
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:00:36 AM »
Ever since that day up in Mass few weeks ago, I have had a strange shifting noise.

Only on up-shifting and not all the time.
But there is a low-pitched rumble/grind sound that lasts about 1 second.
There is also a similar sound at startup that lasts about 2+ seconds.

This is an auto tranny.

any ideas?

I'd start with the simple things first like chaging the fluid and filter.  Depnding on how old the current fluid is, you also might want to consider forking over the extra $$$ and having a shop do a complete flush and get all of the old fluid out.  I have been amazed at the differnce after a simple fluid change.  I am also a fan of Lucus Transmission stuff.

PM sent to PaulW.

No wheeling for a little while. Too much work/travel and want to know what my truck is doing first.

ok Brian,

so i have the same thing as well going on, the syncros are going bad in your tranny. (which (simplified) helps ease shifting of gears)it all depends on how you shift your gears as to when you need to replace it. no matter what, they are going bad/getting worn gown. but you can extend the repair process by at least a year. (so far for me) i can show you, it is easier to show you than describe it.

plus when you come over, i can do your d-rings.
