how can you weld with an alternator?

albsvx:
if you don't have a d.c. inverter and voltage regulator on it, an alternator is putting out some pretty high current a.c. voltage, along with a few jumper clamps and some welding stick, makes for a pretty crude arc welder.

humm bet I could swing a hundred amp ford alternator into the belt path where the AC compressor would go, an external regulator one like my van takes can be had for under $100
